Harry Potter bad for kids

I have SBC. So then whenever you log-in you get news(sports,science,london etc.). Then one of the news sfuff say that the pope hates Harry Potter books.

*grins* Hmph well if the pope like disney and not HP, boy id feel sorry for him cause Harry Potter and Disney have SOOOOOOOO much in common (Dragons, faries, merpeople, etc). If ppl say HP is against the bible (or whatever nonsense they say about it) then Disney must be, too. Cause every person ive met likes Disney (cause come on, you gotta love Disney). Most ppl cant accept the fact that its pure FICTION!!!!!!! They think of it as though its real or something and they just decide to burn the books. Theres also LOTR that is similar to Disney and HP.

Am I Right? If you burn HP, then burn Disney and LOTR with it cause other wise, your a hypocrit (cant spell it) (I Like all three things im talking about and i dont think they are against the bible one single ^$%* bit)

They are too against the bible. If you believe the bible and that is an exert from the bible. Seeing how there are witches, wizards, and/or magic in these books/movies i can see how he is against Hp if he lives by the bible.

WTF? It is not against the Bible at all. If you agree that Harry Potter books are "against the Bible," then you're also agreeing that the Chrinciles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, A Symphony of the Ages, and other great masterpieces are "agianst the Bible." How on Earth are they against the Bible? They are not prophecising to children to run a mock, taking up any sort of witchcract or casting spells. Apparently there had been rumours of children taking up the practise of withcraft after reading the books, but not because the author suggested it in any of the pages. Seriously, find me a section of the HP books that suggests others perform withcraft and I'll believe you.

Harry Potter books, and the like, are NOT bad for children. People like the Pope just are too staunch and proud to realize they are wrong.

O god, this stuff gets me so pissed off. Harry Potter is fiction, its a childrens book that is thourally enjoyed by all ages alike. Im a Huge overprotective potter fan, if it wasn't for Harry Potter, i wouldn't read, seriously, Harry Potter saved my basic literacy skills from going down the drain. This is why i hate religion, it practically ruins everything because its not holy. Its a harmless fiction/fantasy book, you don't see the Pope going after lord of the Rings do you? he should be glad that JKR created a world where people all ages can enjoy. I don't see how its evil when the main character of the story is fighting for good. The Pope has no solid evidence that harry Potter is evil, for Christs sake..

you knows whatit is most definitly not against the bible, i agree with Keyblade shards! I am a very strong catholic and i think that this new pope is just CRAZY. Pope John Paul II was not like this. They are just saying this because they're old and think they know EVERYTHING. the books do not say to practice witchcraft. come on! J.K. Rowling herself is christian. I was a huge HP fan, but i got over it( i still read the books once in a while) and so will the kids, they will relize that HP is not real! thats all i have to say thanx

He's just paranoid, like a lot of old people =P. There is nothing wrong with Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter (even though I hate it, I don't think it's wrong at all- it's fiction for cripes sake), or any of that other stuff.

Starprincess366- I think why a lot of people like that don't "agree" with fictional things like this, is little kids/immature people may think of the things that happen within as more than possible- as things they can do. If that's not why they think that, I don't get it either. =/

I was just stating it how i thought the pope was seeing it. Sorry if i offended anyone. I read Harry Potter , Lord of the rings, and watch disney. I highly doubt he will get any of the 3 banned, so there is no reason to worry or get mad. The pope does have a right to his opinion on these subjects of entertainment.

Sheesh, nuthing is wrong w/ Harry Potter, LOTR, Disney, etc! Its all fiction.

you see? these people are not witches and such that are trying to convince little children to turn to darkness, (or however you'd perfer to say it *i know a few people who use that term for unknown reasons*) These stories that are in these books/movies are nothing but the works of wild, vivid and creative imaginations that where shared with the world thanks to wild, vivid, and creative people.

I even did a project on Walt Disney *for those who include Disney in this disscussion* and all of his creations came from pretty much out of the blue, and it turns out that most his creations were something everyone loves!

None of these stories are true; note that some fictional stories are BASED on real life happenings, but if they are based, something is always added, making it fictional *take the animated movie Balto from Universal Studios; If you do your reasearch you'll find that Balto was not part wolf and actually was a top race dog in Nome; but next to that the two sequals are completly fiction*

I'm done blabbing for now, but if things start to act up I will be back for more lecture time:cool:

That's what I said as well, and I think everyone here has to agree it's just fiction. It's not like this stuff really happened (LotR, Harry Potter), and someone just happened to have the means to visually record everything that happened. I don't see why anyone would make a big deal of this stuff >.>;

I believe in the bible but I don't think god intended on us to be bored that's why he gave us the freedom to choose for ourselves I've watched Harry Potter LOTR and other things they're really not all that bad the only thing bad is if you try to do what they did in the movie than its bad:cool:
