I though that all depended on which version you had. Like for Red, the trainer's default name was Red and the rival was Blue, like you said. But for Blue Version, it was the opposite.

Though, now that I think back to when I played through Gold Version, "Ash" was referred to as Red, and "Gary" was referred to as "Blue".

Try the original Red/Blue; hence why he has all three Kanto starters.

I guess they wanted to put an Ash character in the game, but since Ash hasnt actually STARRED in a Pokemon Game, they put the closest thing they could in

He's not from Pokemon Red or Blue. The male trainer from Pokemon Red & Blue looks different and more like Ash Ketchum, in fact, thats where they got Ash Ketchum's design from.

The Pokemon Trainer in Brawl is the male trainer from FireRed/LeafGreen.

And FireRed/LeafGreen were remade from the original games: Thus making this Trainer kinda Ash

He is Red. The newer design for the main character in R/B/Y. Not Ash in anyway. Ash was simply inspired by this character's original design.

Yeah, but FireRed/LeafGreen are remakes of the original games, but that doesn't mean they're the same.

I'm going to explain this one more time.

This is the male pokemon trainer from Pokemon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow Versions. You can name him wutever you want, but his default name was Red.



Later, Pokemon Red and Green/Blue versions were remade for the GBA, and called Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen. They remade that above character model with a new design, and added a female trainer. This is the trainer you play as in Brawl.
