Then again, DS isn't wearing armor either. Likewise, if Mickey has a key chain, it makes sense he isn't wearing armor either.

The armor could just be a reflection of the 'growing'/leveling system. Sora doesn't use such obvious protection, so its strange that the three new heroes seem to need it.

As for the key chains, its more than just completing a level, like the keyblade you obtain after Axel's defeat. Who knows what their meaning is, there's just too much guess work.

It could just be design. It might not have to do with gameplay.

In fact Nomura mentioned, that he wanted to use capes, like from the organization members, but at least, it was worse for the story, so Nomura made armors.
And besides, he mentioned, that he wanted to hide their faces.

Only to hide their faces?! Or is he hinting us something special about them?

The Gathering/Sunset Horizons"? They all had keychains. But they were not to be seen again during BbS.

That could be quite possible, I’m curious to know if this has anything to do with their master also. Mind you what HadesDragon said, Master Xehanort isn’t the only wielder to have a Keyblade with a Keychain.

Nomura stated that when designing the characters for the regular KHII secret ending "Sunset Horizons/The Gathering" he hadn't decided on the faces yet, so he needed a way to cover their faces. At first he was going to have them wear those black robes that the Org. 13 members wear, but decided against it in the end.
He then looked at the Judges from FFXII and really liked the armor design, so he chose to have V.A.T. wear similar sets of armor.

That's as far as it goes I'm afraid.

That's not to say that he couldn't add them into the story somehow later on, but that is just speculation.

I have a little idea of BBS. I think Pride Lands will be in the game and that they follow the storyline when Simba was still little. What do you guys think?

Simba will be little during that time and the death of Mufasa will be shown.

Lion's reach maturity much quicker than humans, though. Plus a lion's lifespan if about 15-16 years, so Simba would've been getting pretty old by KHII. =/ Of course, this is a fantasy game, so logic doesn't have to be applied. =P
