Default The Gameplay of Kingdom Hearts III.

Gone are the days of the old attack menu, it would appear(once Kingdom Hearts ReMix's are through) as many of the Kingdom Hearts fans do love the command deck style the later games in the series have undertaken.

The main reason I have created this thread is to know whether or not you people would favour gameplay that was used in Re:Coded. That is, turn-based system, 2D side scrollers, roller-coaster shooter etc.

My question to you is, what sort of Gameplay would you like in Kingdom Hearts III? Would you like the return of the attack menu, the card system, the command deck, varied gameplay to shake it up or a combination of multiple gameplay styles?

Remember to make intelligent responses below with what you'd like to see. And feel free to get creative.

I wish they made an option to play with the deck command menu in the HD remixes (except for RE:COM because of story reasons). I like the deck command and expect it to appear in KH3 maybe with some refinements from FFXIII battle system

Command deck's here to stay. Old menu was too slow & clunky for a real time action game. I assume most people disregarded it altogether & just used the shortcut bar. I know I did.

The bigger question is what new features does KH3 have on top of the CD?

Who knows after 1.5. Some people do like the old attack menu, and they've made this more user friendly. Maybe this is the start between mixing the two together.

The command deck is a pretty solid battle system for KH. I think the continual evolution of it is a testament to how well it fits.

That said, I was a big fan of Shot locks and would love to see those return in some form. I also really enjoyed linking with DE's.

But, I adore what Re:Coded did. Re:Coded took a lot of chances and made every level exciting. Playing the game was an absolute pleasure and more than made up for the less than amazing story. I'd love to see KH try to find a way to integrate this in the future, maybe for mini-games?

The command deck. It's just so much more fluent and accesible than the menu. They'll more than likely use DDD's system with some minor updates. Wasn't it said in an interview that the gameplay from DDD was linked somehow to KHIII? If that's the case, then that means that flowmotion might resurface in the third installment. Damn. I personally hope that the flowmotion function is a realm of sleep exclusive system. It was fine for one game but I feel it's too overpowering.

Not sure about KHIII, but I do believe they said the gameplay rejected from Versus, or things they were unable to use was put in KH.

I remember that being said somewhere.

I really dislike the command deck. I miss the magic gauge, the shortcut menu, etc. I just dislike the whole command deck. Curing, to me, seems to be easier to disrupt than it used to with the menu.

Mm, I don't think that would change my mind on it.

The way Re:coded utilized many different battle systems was interesting. I think those different play styles will work better as minigames for KH3. Maybe Square Enix is already planning a new type of minigame like they did with Flick Rush. But I really miss the Command Board in BBS, it was really fun, they need to bring it back.

Command Deck with a shortcut menu would be just great. I also like the idea of multiple gameplay styles such as having the choice between the command menu or the command deck. Of course, this could hinder the game development as well as the overall gameplay in general.

Command board tended to be boring and tedious. Not to mention downright unfair at times. IF they manage to tweak it a big and make it more engaging and less monotonous then it can be included as a mini game again.

I honestly believe the Command Deck is here to stay. It is very fluid and when used in the way it is meant to be used in relation to enemies, it can be a wonderful tool for strategizing. It'd be great if enemies had less weaknesses in them that you need to rearrange your command deck properly in order to attack them.

I like the action menu, no doubt, but it is definitely out of date in comparison to the Command Deck's abilities. I want the ability to have a ton of options, but I don't want to have to shuffle through those options while I am in the midst of a fight. I usually just assign shortcuts for spells I commonly use.

I also like what the Dream Eaters brought to the table with being able to cast status effects and spells like Protect, Shell, Regen, Haste, Spirit Roar, etc. If they could bring that into play I'd love the game forever.

Since I am one of those few Re:coded lovers, I'd really enjoy if they had minigames that use other gameplay styles like sidescrolling, shooter, and turn-based. I loved the variety they had. I am also a cheesy person who loves Flick Rush (because I absolutely enjoyed Tin Pin Slammer after learning how to use it in TWEWY) so anything that is innovative or gives me old school gaming nostalgia, I will be so happy. Heck, how about we go the Catherine route and give an 8-bit KH game within the game that plays like a side-scroller or turn based FF game? Part of the appeal of KH is from the nostalgia it evokes, and I have wanted to see Yoko Shimomura make some 8-bit version of KH songs. (which also leads me to wanting a KH Chips like the FF games that are getting 8-bit albums.)

I'd also like summons to return. I liked D-Links, but I like having the characters right there.

For both main and party members, I'd love for the ability map to return. That way I don't have to cry over not being able to equip the abilities I want because of AP limitations. I'd like for it to have a lot of variety and branches as well. I know people hate stuff like the Sphere Grid in FFX, the License Board in FFXII, or the Crystarium in XIII (which is probably the worst incarnation of the ability grid style to ever exist) but I think if they can really nail the purpose of it, which is not completion but for gamers to have the ability to decide how they want their characters to play (either with more emphasis on support, attack, magic, etc). I guess a good example would be Donald. Probably too much work though soooo...idk. (i'm rambling now)

I'd like equipment to make a good return. I hated how after a point in KH2 it was all pointless to have. Then again, equipment would end up just being false augments because without it you'd just have Sora or whoever with whatever attack, defense, resistance, due to abilities. Equipment is just an illusion for that, but idk I think of how TWEWY's threads and food system is and how you HAVE to use items to boost Neku, Joshua, Shiki, and Beat's attack, HP, bravery, defense and sync to succeed in battle and how it was pretty fun to use. idk. i am def ranting.
