Err... no. Just no. D:
Comparing Disney with other entertainment companies, like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, they all lack the charm that Disney has, which really makes Kingdom Hearts what it is. Disney may be more "childish" (I guess that's the right word?), but a lot of the movies and shows published by other entertainment companies are ridiculous sometimes and just there for laughs more than anything; at least with cartoons and such. (Not saying that's bad, though; just saying that doesn't fit with the game at all.) I think it would be hard to have the dark tones that are present in KH too, especially in the first game, if another company had teamed up with Square instead. Disney can be very dark sometimes, especially in the earlier movies and cartoons.

It wouldn't exist. Kingdom Hearts was the result of a Square Enix executive and a Disney executive meeting in an elevator, if that didn't happen, we wouldn't have Kingdom Hearts. Or possibly, it could've been a Square Enix IP already in production, and we would've had Sora swinging around a chainsaw traveling to worlds from Midgar to Ivalice. But standing from an "if" point of view, it wouldn't be Kingdom Hearts. Of course, we wouldn't know what Kingdom Hearts would be like, and it might be worth trying, but we wouldn't know, would we? And actually, I would've been okay if Square Enix collaborated with DC.
Kidding.
I read your post after I posted. I'm sorry. And I said that if Square Enix collaborated with Disney, it may have been a game where Sora travels to a bunch of Final Fantasy worlds and uses a chainsaw like what was originally imagined back when Kingdom Hearts was an idea. And I joked that Square Enix could have made the game with DC Comics.
yeah, kind of meant to show how lame it would be in the hands of other companies...
The bolded part makes you wonder... where would the story have gone with the main character wielding a chainsaw? I doubt it could have been "family friendly" (is picturing GoW) yeah... But the main character's weapon ended up being crucial to the plot, with a generic (albeit strange) weapon, it makes you wonder what the series would have been like

I'm still wondering how that conversation went in the elevator....
Hate all you want, but I will love and tolerate the Shit out of you.
Ardenticer, noun; One who entices others to be passionate and enthusiastic in various endeavors. Yeah, I made a word, that's what's up.
I got the feeling the topics probably jumped from.
- The elevator is being slow.
- Disney is renaming their video game studio to Buena Vista.
- Japanese characters are popular with children.
- Mickey Mouse is popular with children.
- Disney films are very iconic and easily identifiable.
- This elevator is taking forever.
- One of the teams in Japan is looking for a new project.
- I bet a game with Mickey Mouse would sell. *ha*
- God that would be horrible. Can you imagine that?
- Elevator opens up.
- Square Enix executive walks out and shakes hands with a visiting Japanese executive.
- Japanese executive asks what he was doing in the elevator for so long.
- The Square Enix jokingly responds that he was designing a video game staring Mickey Mouse in a Final Fantasy game.
- Japanese executive laughs and the two joke about how stupid the idea is.
- The Japanese executive continues to think about and tells Nomura about how no one could make a good game about such a stupid concept.
- Nomura:
Challenge Accepted Origins: In the television series how i met your mother Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris (openly homosexual actor who is famous for portraying a fictional version of himself in the Harold & Kumar films as well as his career as child actor), often utters the statement, "Challenge Accepted" when his friends present a scenario in a joke or through sarcasm.

I'd like to believe it went more like this:
Two men meet on an elevator, both checking their briefcases to make sure everything is in there. A slight earthquake causes the elevator to shake, startling the men into dropping their briefcases. Papers fly everywhere. As the two men struggle to get the papers back together...
"HEY! YOU GOT DISNEY IN MY FINAL FANTASY!"
"HEY! YOU GOT FINAL FANTASY IN MY DISNEY!"
Then the two looked at each other with sudden realization. And that is how KH was born.
:P
I don't know, never liked Disney all that much. :x
If anything, original characters and the gameplay were what attracted me to KH in the first place. I'd be okay with it being some other company. KH lacks a proper/good narrative anyway and it would be as much of a mess as it is now.

I think Naurto and Bleach and other anime would work even worse than Cartoon Network and similar channels. The thing that is great about Disney, is that besides it being easily the most recognized children-company worldwide, most of their movies are based on fairytales that come from around the world which is cool because it allows people everywhere to discover those fairytales, which works with KH's themes (however, I bet it would have changed had they worked with any other show). This allows one to feel like they are in the fairytale when traveling through the worlds to an extent. Another aspect of Disney that allowed KH to work was to see these Disney characters in action. Compared to an anime where all characters are in a constant battle pretty much 24/7, KH was so interesting because I wanted to fight along side Ariel and Jack, who didn't really fight in their respective movies (Jack more just dodged contraptions and pulled a string). I know Naruto can fight, and I know he is really strong, I don't think I need to help him like I do with many of Disney's roster.
I do not think this topic is about, "What would happen if Square Enix and Disney never met up and decided to make a game of their own accord?"
I think the question is more like, how would people feel if SE had met up with another company in that elevator for example, or if SE and Disney got the idea in the elevator, but the SE staff decided to go to a different kid's company instead...xP
I kind of always played it out in my head with some sarcasm. I wouldn't be shocked if the two people were fans of each other's work and they probably joked about a collaboration. Then, the two people told their friends in their respective companies about the joke, which spread and became less of a joke among both companies, leading to KH.

That wasn't how I interpreted the OP at all. I was merely presenting the fact that they would have never met up with another company in that elevator because Disney was the only other company in that building. And if you spend your time joking on some crossover idea, you wouldn't decide to go to another company to make it happen. You'd go with the guy you joked with.
So I may be sounding like a bit of a KH purist or whatever, but I can't imagine any other company working with Square Enix. KH was tailored around Disney and is only what it is because of Disney's existence.
Put Nickelodeon in Disney's place. The game would have been something completely different and probably wouldn't have had the impact that KH has. Nickelodeon, a 34 year old company, compared with Disney, an 88 year old company, would hardly be able to attract the same amount of attention as Disney has. Disney is rather timeless while I think Nickelodeon is dependent on the interests of each generation of children. I can easily pick up any Disney movie from the 30s to now and enjoy them, while I can't stand watching some of the newer Nick stuff (minus Avatar, which was made to be timeless unlike a lot of other Nick shows)
Ugh, I'm not going to rant because idk why i started to begin with.
