Now, depending on how you interpreted Setzer's personality in Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts II, you may find yourself disagreeing with this piece of trivia. To most, though, you'll probably agree that Setzer's personality between the two games was radically different. The core of his personality was there in Kingdom Hearts II––a risk-taker who gambles for everything in his life––but he was a lot more cocky and underhanded.

In Kingdom Hearts II, during the struggle match in Twilight Town against Roxas, Setzer tries to bribe Roxas by telling he'll make it worth his while if Roxas throws the match. Some argue that the Final Fantasy VI version of Setzer would never do something like that.

Some take it further, believing that Dissidia: Final Fantasy addresses the personality discrepancy found between Final Fantasy VI and Kingdom Hearts II's Setzers. In the Duel Colosseum manual found in Dissidia, Shadow says "Don’t even think of bribing your opponents to lose", to which Setzer responds back with, "What’s that about? I would never stoop to that!" If Setzer meant that seriously or if he was being sarcastic, that is up to you to decide.

Do you think it was a reference to his personality in Kingdom Hearts II, or are fans just over-thinking things like always?

On a side note, I was about to agree with your post when I remembered that I haven't even finished any Final Fantasy game (oh wait. That is, if Crisis Core doesn't count, which it doesn't really). That fact feels so odd when I've been so deeply immersed in Final Fantasy forums and communities for years, including KH's community.

I do think Crisis Core counts for anything Final Fantasy. To me, the only thing that shouldn't count that is labelled under the Final Fantasy title, is "The Spirits Within"

I guess it didn't really count for the topic which we were discussing (i.e., numbered FF titles). I suppose I never played them because I couldn't connect to their battle systems. I've always been more of an ARPG fan. Megaman Battlenetwork 3 FTW *fist pump*

You should play them. I bought V-IX when they were on sale and haven't regretted it(except maybe VI so far. It hasn't really pulled me in).

But yeah, Setzer, wow. Hope he learnt his lesson from bribing people.

No, I think its just a reference.
I mean, there were alot of references to KH in Dissidia.
Sephiroth saying to Warrior of Light how Cloud can only defeat him.
Some of his quotes "The planet has forsaken me","Know your place". He also pointed his sword at Tifa in 012 like in KH2 when she interruptted his battle with Cloud in both games. His "Oblivion" skill is from KH2.
Tifa's Premium Heart in 012 have the KH heart logo on them.
