Default Re: Just Curious, Why so Many Female Fans?

I'm serious when I say this but I was attracted to KH because of the soundtrack (owned the OST before owning the game), the art direction, and watching an old dev video on KH. And the Final Fantasy. I thought it was cool that some company was able to blend FF and Disney together and not make a mess out of it. :| I didn't care about the themes or the characters or how hot Riku was.

Of course, I care about the themes and character, but it definitely was not what attracted me to the series. After finding myself caring for the characters, the theme, and being intrigued by the story, I decided to stick around for the mystery of what the secret ending meant.

I have to agree that a lot of what people have already said are reasons some females like KH, but they were definitely not mine and you shouldn't assume they apply to the entire female demographic.

Also what Sign said. It is highly likely that it is the female fanbase that is more vocal than the male fanbase.

I'm attracted by the storyline and gameplay..Possible, most of the females enjoy RP Game.
And another reason.. Maybe get attracted by the male character in the game xD

I think this is it. All of the guys I know who have played this series will not openly admit it unless you're the one to bring it up first.

When the mass majority of male gamers seem to be COD fans, the KH fans might feel insecure admitting to enjoying a game such as KH which is obviously Disney oriented.

At least, that's what it's always seemed like to me. KH for guys seems like more of a guilty pleasure.

There are a lot of male fans, but take it from me once you hit a certain point you lose interest rather quickly. Me and my roommates in college always talk about this, and it comes to the point that the nail in the coffin for us was Kingdom Hearts 2.

After that we've played some of the later ones they played 358/2 Days or Coded, and I played BBS. It was a mixed reaction for the most part, but I have no problem admitting at one point I was a Kingdom Hearts fan.

Honestly KH2 is a Yaoi Paradise for girls I'm sorry half that game was GAY! lol.

I played the game because my sister got me into it. Who got into it because of her guyfriend. :)
But I think the openness about playing KH is harder to obtain for guys than girls. I mean, at my school it's all, "Black Ops is da shizz, man!", or, "Imma go blow some heads off.". At least for the guys. The girls are too busy on Facebook/texting after school to play video games unless their boyfriend is. :(
But I have seen some KH shirts around school. In which I jumped at the opportunity to chat with a male fan(most of the female fans at my school are Akuroku yaoi fangirls). But when we started talking, I realized that he hadn't played BBS/Days/coded, or even CoM. Instead, he talked about how KH3 was coming out in a month(this was a year ago). Knowing about the slow development of Versus, I lol'ed in his face and explained. And then he got mad at me because I was just an, 'ignorant douche who didn't know left from right when it came to KH'.
    And then I was like:
    ...
So my only choice of KH fans to talk with were casual, retarded, mean dudes or scary, insane, obsessed yaoi Riku/Sora or Axel/Roxas fangirls.
But yes. Boys are usually embarrassed to be caught playing something with Disney in it. Girls have a little more leeway in society if they play a more, so called and labeled, "childish", game. But what's more childish here? Playing a game because you might actually enjoy it? Or completely leave by the wayside just because it's SO below your age?

    I don't even know any other KH fans where I'm from, male or female. And sometimes, that makes me sad. ;~;

Aww @ mangartist there there *pats mangartist on the shoulder*

@ D.D.D That was a problem I also ran into back in high school and sometimes here at college people didn't really play the handheld's(although I didn't play some of them myself), but their more on to "When it KH3 coming out gig right now."

Sadly enough most of my other friends have also lost track with the games because they haven't released a mainstream title since KH2 and yes to those that may say otherwise a lot of people consider the console releases mainstream.

I told a friend about how he needed to play BBS and he was like "Oh, I'll just wait for KH3" Another friend asked me "Why is Roxas in different clothes" and I facepalm'd.

I will seriously laugh at every casual fan who goes to play KH3 and doesn't understand crap. Sadly, I think they'll throw in an entire series recap in KH3 for casual fans and beginners. :| I'll still laugh, though.

yup...not to mention their recap won't be nearly as good as knowing the games in their entirety, so being able to say some stuff about all the games that nobody else understand won't hurt.

As to the point about guys being ashamed. I don't think that is the point as guys who I have talked to openly admit it most of the time and aren't ashamed of it...it is a video game after all. I think another big problem might just stem from the fact that KH doesn't target the boy demographic. Perhaps guys like shooters more than RPGs, and vice versa with girls. Thus, in the end, guys just don't find the game as fun as girls do...

Don't really agree. imo KH doesn't target either boy or girl demographic more than the other.

When I played the original KH game it didn't seem like it targeted a certain demographic as the later releases came it started to shift and henceforth why I don't play to many of them anymore.

Why would you laugh at them @Ethnic Woman you do realize people can't afford all the handheld's like that correct? I'm not going to waste money buying a DS or 3DS when I know damn good and well I won't be playing many games on either system. If they do throw in a recap I won't be so mad actually it may be needed to remind others just how far we've come since the beginning.

For me the fact that it has a mix with Disney and Final Fantasy in it just attracted me to it right away. But I'd say what mostly got me was the story line. I am sucker for games with great story lines and Kingdom Hearts to me has in my opinion one of the best in gaming. Same with other games I love like Final Fantasy and Zelda all have amazing stories. Of course being a gamer I love other things about it to. I feel like Kingdom Hearts has something in it for everyone. Just for me it's the story, characters, gameplay everything is just great.

I have no idea. It was the manga-like character designs that drew me in and the Disney characters at first. But that was at 10 years old. Now it's mostly the storyline, the game play, the music and the characters and much more.
Can't really pin point why there is a lot of female fans because all of us like KH for different reasons :3

They don't have to buy the systems. They can watch walkthroughs online. That is what my friend does. She doesn't play games but she watches walkthroughs online because she is a fan of the series and wants to know what is going on. My other friend who only played CoM knows about as much as I know on the games and that is only from casually looking things up. The fact is that it is easy to know what is going on, but the people who don't care about the handheld games won't and will be lost when KH3 comes around.

I'll laugh at them because they dismiss the handheld games as side-games when they will eventually become very important in the series.

As somebody who lives in a household of four and only one person has a job, I also don't have money for these games and consoles. I eventually do get the games and the consoles, but don't think I don't understand the complications people have geting this stuff.

Exactly, that was what I did with Days and Re: Coded as well to keep up to date with the series.
Just watching goddamn walkthrough, it's enough to understand things if one wants to understand.
