Actually, Mickey can be seen several times, when running, holding his keyblade in a reverse direction. (I distinctly remember this happening right after Goofy gets knocked out in Hollow Bastion before the 1k heartless fight)

How would it get in his way just because he's left-handed?

Actually, that would be to your advantage. Your enemy is used to fighting right handed attacks, and would (normally) be best suited to blocking attacks from the right (his left), not the left (his right). Awkward, and forces your enemy to think rather than fighting instictively.

And fighting backhand gives more power and is faster, but is harder to control and block.
