Heartless and Nobody names

I've been thinking lately, why are the Heartless called Heartless when they are the ones who have the hearts? Also, why when the Nobodies have no hearts are they not called Heartless? It would make sense to me that the names would be switched. What do you guys think?

this is probably going to sound retarded, but.

Heartless might have the hearts because their name has 'heart' in it. But then, there's the 'less' part. maybe it could mean that they still have a heart, it just has less feeling into it than the average KH character.

and as for the Nobody.
well you see nothing come out of them when they die, so... that's why their called 'nobody'.

Heartless - dark creature created from the darkness left from the heart. The void of the heart which has taken shape

Nobody - have no hearts, unable to truly express emotion without faking or pretending. Therefore they do not exist metaphorically, hence nobody

Though, you have to admit that there is some sort of irony in naming them what they are. Even DiZ said so himself, in one of the secret ansem reports.


Imo, "Heartless" and "Nobody" are meant to imply irony. A type of contradictory irony, if you will. Basically, both are antiphrasis.

Antiphrasis - Irony of a word through patent contradiction.

I'm not sure if Nomura meant to do this, but meh. I actually think the names are fine, as well.

Well would you consider Xehanorts heartless a nobody. Because he seemed mentally and physically capable of being a human himself.

To be honest both Xehanorts could be considered heartless but one acts like a robot and the other stresses his feelings

So heartless have the hearts and nobodies have the bodies, and if the new enemy is the souls (just a theory) would they be called.... Soulfrees? Soulzeros? Soulzilches? Freesouls? Zerosouls? Zilchsouls?... I don't even know.

Nobodies have souls as well, which is why they don't go by instinct like heartless.
