It's not funny how many times this has been pointed out.

Nomura thought that the eyes would look cool, and in the Kingdom Hearts Universe they have come to signify Darkness in a weapon.

didn't noticed on MX's keyblades. but on riku's keyblades is old.

but i think they mean that they are dark keyblades.

Valid point, would it be logical to suggest the two suits are designed from the same type of dark force or if so same person? I’d assume so to be true.

The eye on the sword thing is from an old folk tale, right? And other franchises have made use of it, like Soul Calibur, for example - there, as in the original story (from what I recall), it was about the sword itself being sentient and possessing its wielder. I don't think that's the case in Kingdom Hearts, but it is worth pointing out; it probably is significant.

Let's suppose both MX's and DS' keyblades become a Soul Eater... Xehanort's Heartless gave one to Maleficent and kept the other for himself... Then, in the last battles, he combines the two to form the double sided staff he uses... After getting his body back, Riku then has two Soul Eaters... One becomes the WTD then the other becomes Kairi's keyblade...

Imo, they are both very plausible...

AR had a theory on Riku having two keyblades, he never really explained it in depth, but maybe this is what he meant, or this could be another theory.

I actually kinda like this theory, because not only does it explain what happens before he gets the two Soul Eaters, but I have a theory for after, and also linking to Kairi's keyblade.

I think that one Soul Eater belongs to Riku, and another to Xehanort's Heartless. Now Riku has one forever (As seen in CoM and KH2) and he gets his second one only after becoming Xehanort's heartless. This shows why Riku doesn't dual wield in CoM or KH2 when he fights in Riku's body. And if he gave Kairi his second WtD/Soul Eater, when he finally gets rid of Xehanort's heartless, he loses the second Soul Eater (Kairi's keyblade) which explains why she doesn't have it for the rest of the game.

Then why did the Oblivion or the Inverse Key, both Keyblades of Darkness, not have eyes...?
And the "it's just for show" explination is cheap... There is some form of connection...

like some have already said, it could apply to history repeating itself and riku was to be like either DS or MX
