Ansem the Wise said that he had fallen to the state where only his heart existed. His body has surely perished, but he retained his memories, and did not transformed into a Heartless.

That could explain Xehanort's existence. Both of their conditions are similiar in some way. And if Xehanort has a Heartless and a Nobody, perhaps Ansem the Wise has one too. If you hadn't forget, Xehanort's Heartless is one moving, talking, Dark powerful person who has memories of his past. It is logical and accepted that Ansem the Wise might have a Nobody. However, this is only a possibility.

Don't you realise that after Xehanort turned into a Heartless, his existence as a Heartless and the existence of his Nobody is a contradiction to what he is? Well, it's hard to explain like this, but if you really think deeply, I think ou get the idea. I'm telling you, Xehanort should not have been a Heartless, as well as there shouldn't have been a Nobody. It all contradicts like hell.

Nope, that their was written from Xehanort not Ansem the Wise. Ansem was banished by his apprentice to the world of nothingness where he endeavored and befriended darkness without it completely devouring his heart gaining him a newfound power

You're right, all of the Ansem reports in KH1 were written by Xehanort, but the first one( Number 1 in USA version, Number 0 in Japanese version) was written by Ansem the wise.

That transformation, is a contradiction. I'm not talking about whether Xehanort or Ansem the Wise wrote it, it doesn't matter now.

It was said that he should have taken on the form of a Heartless, so he wasn't a Heartless, yet he is a Heartless. That was the thing bugging me.

Well ATW does not have a nobody or a heartless. I think the only reason Xehanort got a heartless and a nobody was because of his connections to the past in BBS. And we won't know what those connections are until the game comes out

No, anybody can have a heartless, although only strong hearts can create a nobody. I questioned Xehanorts existence as a heartless because he was reduced to nothing but a heart while other hearts are just swallowed by darkness. He should have turned into a heartless, but that didn't happen and so he needed a vessel to regain his body aka Riku. While similar to Kairi she is unable to lose her heart to darkness and so it found a vessel being Soras body. Kairi was a princess of heart being the purest of hearts so what the hell happened to Xehanort? Hopefully something to be answered in BBS

Yeah, exactly what I meant. He had been reduced to a heart's state where he should be a heartless, yet he is not a heartless, but then again he is a heartless because his nobody's existence proved it. That's the contradiction.

perhaps you don't necessarily have to become a heartless i order to have a nobody. His body did vanish once darkness consumed him and the rest of ATWs apprentices but then.......

It is my duty to expose what this darkness really is. I shall conduct the following experiments: Extract the darkness from a person's heart. Cultivate darkness in a pure heart. Both suppress and amplify the darkness within. The experiments caused the test subject's heart to collapse, including those of the most stalwart*. How fragile our hearts are! My treatment produced no signs of recovery. I confined those who had completely lost their hearts beneath the castle. Some time later, I went below and was greeted by the strangest sight. Creatures that seemed born of darkness... What are they? Are they truly sentient beings? Could they be the shadows of those who lost their hearts in my experiments? *stalwart (adj.) Brave, strong, or valiant.

The shadows that crawl beneath the castle... Are they the people who lost their hearts, or incarnations of darkness? Or something entirely beyond my imagination? All my knowledge has provided no answer. One thing I am sure of is that they are entirely devoid of emotion. Perhaps further study will unlock the mysteries of the heart. Fortunately, there is no shortage of test samples. They are multiplying underground even as I write this report. They still need a name. Those who lack hearts... I will call them the Heartless.

Location :: After locking Hollow Bastion, talk to Aeris in the library.
The Heartless appear in groups, and are multiplying rapidly. I've provided them both living and nonliving samples. They've responded only to the living. They seem to multiply after absorbing something from the living creatures. Their prey vanishes without a trace. I believe the Heartless are taking hearts. They are born from those who've lost their hearts, and thrive on hearts seized from others. The hearts taken by the heartless become Heartless themselves. Though I lack proof, I am confident in this hypothesis. I must also study their behavioral principles. Though they lack emotions, they do seem to have some intelligence. How to communicate with them? It's just occurred to me: Could they be the darkness in people's hearts?

Oh alright, so Heartless are darkness that became somewhat sentimental after takeing a person's heart?

pretty much, although Hades has said that the heartless are the hearts, they are by chance the being that form when the heart is consumed by darkness. It has no heart but it is the dark manifestation of one that has been swallowed
