She has none, she's the only one totally unrelated to the others (and so he non predicted element), except for her mother being Julia, the woman Laguna first loved.

Kiros says to Laguna, at Winhil when laguna asks about Julia, that after the military she fell in love with disappeared in battle (Laguna), disappeared, she met and was comforted by a Major, and both of them had a child together finally. Then Kiros precise this Major was named Caraway. Since the Major Caraway, I think state Rinoa is her only child, it means Julia is her mother.

Also I think Junia is named Julia Heartilly (thus Rinoa's name)

Oh, right...thanks for the reminder on all of this stuff, BTW. My sister doesn't have FFVIII disks that work very well, so we usually end up using a friend's disk.

Dammit, why do I always forget this stuff until somebody mentions it or a big part of it, and only then do I visualize the scene and dialouge again? I know that I know it and that I can look back at those moments once I relearn this stuff, but it feels like I could have remembered it beforehand.

Adopted stepsister, but still. Squall is the child of Laguna and Raine, who adopted Ellone. Laguna went to Esthar to defeat Adel and send her to space, when Raine died after giving birth to Squall. Ellone and Squall were taken to an orphanage (Edea's). Laguna became president of Esthar during that time and went to go back to Winhill, immediatly finding out Raine died and Ellone was taken to the orphanage.

Why he didn't hear about him having a son, who knows, but he did go to the orphanage and took Ellone with him. And that's how Squall ended up being alone.

By the time Squall found out about his past, Edea was no longer their enemy, since she was freed from Ultimecia's powers.

Where the hell did you hear/see that? It wasn't one of those things they reveal at the end of the game, is it?

You have to pick it up through NPC dialogue to get a confirmation (I think Kiros says it aboard the Ragnarok), but it's pretty obvious.
Besides Ellone being Squall's "sister" (and Ellone lived with Laguna and Raine, so...), there are parallels between father and son. They look similar, they're both the main character in their party, they are polar opposites in term of personality, they both have elemental names (a sudden violent gust of wind, a shallow body of water separated from deeper sea by a bar), etc.
Laguna was also the only man close to Raine near the time of Squall's birth.

Didn't know they had elemental names, but otherwise, I've seen many examples of that and they're not related at all in other games, so...excuse me for nt thinking that.

And maybe Kiros DID say something aboard Ragnarok when Squall left the room, I just couldn't remember the exact dialouge and wasn't paying much mind at the time to it...though I think you have a point there.

I think Kiros says to Squall "You look a lot like your mother." if Squall speaks to Ward, he doesn't speak and Kiros says "Ward says it's lucky you don't look like your father." Well, along those lines.

I think I got both dialouge options, but I was getting kinda excited that the game was finally almost over. I cannot tell you how many times I just went into a zombie-like state playing the game.

Anyone else think it was kinda annoying to have Edea on the team and then she just disbands 10 minutes later?

I didn't really care, I knew before hand she wasn't going to stay in the party, so it didn't matter, and yeah, she was pretty useless
