If MS works it out with Square then yes. Square already said they want to bring the 360 but having problems because of Live and FFXIV won't be using PlayOnline and the way Live is set up MS makes hard for MMO devs.

FFXI took tons of space if that is what you mean by Game hog, They was also many MMOs planned for the 360 but MS isn't making easy for devs because they way they run Live. Maybe Square can talk sense into them.(hopefully)it could be good both of them.

Never say never. FFXIII, Takken, VF5, DMC4, NGS2, Bioshock, etc was all said never too be muti yet they are and Square done they trying to work something out with MS. Doesn't matter though PC version will be the best.

    edit:
And if doesn't come the 360 not saying it will because with MS ego it may not. It's MS that is losing out. Its not Square didn't try, lol but hopefully it does because with FFXIV on PS3, PC and 360 it would be great for Square and FFXIV.

FINAL FANTASY XIV TO TAKE ON WOW – And speaking of Final Fantasy XIV, Square Enix boss man Yoichi Wada recently went on the record with Develop-Online.net discussing the upcoming MMO’s potential to take on the known universe’s most popular video game, World of Warcraft. Optimistic as hell, Wada stated that FFXIV could be a “serious rival” to the ole’ Warcrack even though he recognizes that WOW is a “tough competitor”.

Final Fantasy XIV a serious WoW rival, says Wada | Game Development | News by Develop

I think it has big chance of being that MMO that really could take on WoW. What do you guys think?

It's possible. But WoW has been around for so long and has such a large fan base. It has a pretty firm foundation. While FF XIV will probably have a large base, I don't think it will reach the point like that of WoW. It's just too new and WoW is still growing.

On the other hand it has an advantage of getting more players because it will be on both PC and PS3 with the FF name on it. Possibly even the 360 somewhere down the line.

^That it being on PC and PS3 maybe on the 360.

Plus the fact it could bring more of the FF fanbase. With FFXIV being more open too people like WoW that could really help. FFXI you had to be in party for pretty everything past lvl10.((I don't know about now)). But FFXI was more of a hardcore MMO and I think that is what turned off a lot of FF fans.

With FFXIV going the''Hey, you can play the way you want. We aren't forcing you into a group etc'' I see more of FF base picking up FFXIV. Not saying it will but it wouldn't shock me.

I know it won't beat WoW over night but I can see FFXIV being that one MMO that could take it on.

If I had a more powerful PC I would be as well. I had to give up hopes on getting my Area 51 gaming desktop back after some stuff happened in my life :(

    BOO!

These type of MMOs just feel right on PCs. But until that happens, I'll be looking for the PS3 version.

    Release Date:2010
    Platforms: Playstation 3, PC
    Genre:MMORPG

    General Information

    * The game has been in development for 5 years (previously known as Rapture).
    * Final Fantasy XIV is being developed by the same team that did Final Fantasy XI.
    * All of the music is being composed by Nobuo Uematsu!
    * The game is coming to PC and Playstation 3. Square Enix is currently considering "Microsoft hardware", so the game may also be released on the Xbox 360.
    * Final Fantasy XIV is also aimed at casual gamers, like World of Warcraft, and unlike Final Fantasy XI. Apparently there will be content for all play styles, however, so those that want lasting content like FFXI will, supposedly, have it.
    * The game will be released in the following languages: Japanese, English, French and German.
    * Final Fantasy XIV will NOT be using a level-based/experience point system, but rather a skill/weapon-based system (i.e. the weapons will determine your play style).
    * The currency of Final Fantasy XIV will be "gil" like it was in Final Fantasy XI.

    Eorzea
    * The name of the new game world is Haiderin and is not related with Vana'diel. Eorzea is actually a region within Haiderin and it is assumed that new regions will be added in future expansions much like FFXI.
    * The region of Eorzea has three big cities, Limsa-Lominsa at the sea side, Gridania is in the forest and Ul'dah in the desert. There's pirates at the seaside town and Square Enix promises a storyline for each city.
    * Ishgard is another city and is described to be "a bastion atop the mountains".
    * The character design is familiar to Final Fantasy XI players and will allow them to create somewhat similar characters in Final Fantasy XIV.
*Soloing is a truly viable option now. You can do as you please, but obviously players gain more rewards in a party.
    * SquareEnix is trying to implement a lot of new systems that other MMORPGs have not used in the past. While this can mean any number of things, it does give us the indication that they are strongly trying to break out of the blandness MMORPG's have fallen into by copying each other.
    * Chocobos are back, but they will be used in "a completely new way". It is unknown if this is in addition to being mounts, but one can assume that it is very likely so.
    * The game will allow you to join large-scale battles.
    * Leviathan will play a big role in the game's story, as will the other summons, but none are currently summonable.

The three player-cities are viewable here, Gridania, Limsa-Lominsa, and Ul'dah respectively:

    Weather and Time

    * The weather in Final Fantasy XIV will change
    * One day in Eorzea is 1 hour of real-life time
    * There will be a day to night cycle

    Characters

    Leveling

Final Fantasy XIV will have a totally new leveling system when compared to Final Fantasy XI. It will not use experience points to grow your character, as it will work on an entirely different system. Since the game will be made for casual gamers as well, we can expect that there will be less grinding involved, which is (hopefully) a good thing.

    Classes

Square Enix has confirmed that the job system will be expanded in Final Fantasy XIV, but it will be much more different than the system present in Final Fantasy XI. Apparently players can grow and develop in a more "natural way".

Weapons have a huge role in advancement, as there are no levels. Your weapon will decide your abilities and your role. Basically you progress as you please, choosing whatever equipment and abilities that suite your style. As you progress you will earn "titles" that are the closest you will get a class. For example, if you wear samurai-like armor, use a great katana, and choose to use samurai skills, you will earn the title of "samurai".

There are currently four categories, with a few "classes" announced or speculated from data for each category:

    * Disciple of War: Gladiator, Archer, Marauder, Pugilist/Monk
    * Disciple of Magic: Enchanter, Illusionist, Thaumaturge
    * Disciple of Hand: Black Smith, Chef, Tailer.
    * Disciple Land: Gardener, Fisher

    Races

SquareEnix has confirmed that although the races look familiar to the ones in Final Fantasy XI, they are different races. SquareEnix decided to make them look the same because of the players who have been playing FFXI, so they can choose a similar type of race. As of now, the announced races are:

    * Hume: Hyur (NA) Hyu-ran (JP) (pronounced "Hyoo rawn")
o Boasting the largest population in Eorzea, the Hyur came from neighboring continents and islands in three large migratory waves. With them brought a sophisticated technology and complex ethos tempered by the breadth of the outside world. They rapidly became a driving force behind cultural progress, and are now widely attributed with spearheading advances in Eorzean civilization.

One of the Hyur's strengths is the staggering variety of languages and social institutions they exhibit. This is said to account for their firm convictions in individual freedoms, though it also results in a relative lack of solidarity and group cohesion.

Two distinct groups now exist among the Hyur - Highlanders, denizens of mountainous regions, and Midlanders, who reside in lower elevations.

    * Taru: Lalafell
o The Lalafell were originally a group of agriculturalists inhabiting the fertile islands of the south seas. With the introduction of transmarine commerce, they soon found their way to Eorzea via trade routes. They are now one of the more populous races and are well established throughout the region, though they remain averse to cold climates.

The short, rotund builds of the Lalafell belie an incredible agility, and their seemingly feeble legs are capable of carrying them long distances over any terrain. Many among them are also known for possessing highly developed and cunning intellects.

The Lalafell place a great deal of significance on familial bonds, but are by no means unfriendly to outsiders. This is evidenced by the fact that they continue to share prosperous relations with all the other races of Eorzea.

    * Galka: Roegadyn (NA) Rugadein (JP) (pronounced "Roo ga deen")
o The Roegadyn are a maritime people whose largest concentrations are found in the northern seas, by way of which they came to Eorzea.

They possess enormous, muscular builds and are known for the cultural emphasis they place on competition and unflinching courage, though tender, introspective individuals can also be found.

Roegadyn in and around the Limsa Lominsa area are typically seamen putting at port, but many have also settled permanently, becoming mercenaries, bodyguards, or even pirates by trade. Far away, deep in the mountains of Ul'dah, live mountain clans of reclusive Roegadyn known as the Hellsguard, said to have mastered the magical arts.

    * Elvaan: Elezen
o The Elezen are a traditionally nomadic people who in former times claimed sole domination over Eorzea, their presence predating that of the other races. Believing this predominance to be ordained by the gods, they came to develop an esteemed sense of honor and pride.

Their characteristically tall, slim physiques and elongated limbs are part of a successful adaptation to the land's various environments. Indeed, it is said that their highly sensitive ears can discern the squeak of a field mouse at a distance of up to several malms.

The Elezen perceived the immigration of the Hyur as tantamount to invasion, and as a result the two share a past plagued by warfare. At present, however, they can be seen coexisting peacefully, the exception being the reclusive Duskwight Elezen.

    * Mithra: Miqo'te
o During the Age of Endless Frost, as the seas turned to ice and passage over them became possible, Eorzea saw an influx of foreign fauna to her shores. This in turn brought the hunting tribes which subsisted upon them, the modern descendants of whom are today known as the Miqo'te.

Since then, the Miqo'te have diverged into two physically distinguishable groups, the diurnal Seekers of the Sun and the nocturnal Keepers of the Moon. Both groups share a superb olfactory sense and powerful leg musculature, results of a long evolution geared towards hunting and predation.

Comparatively few in number, they maintain an insular group mentality, tending to avoid contact with the other races. Many individuals lead isolated lifestyles, even when residing in the more populous cities.

    Guild System

FFXIV sports a complex, advanced, and interesting guild system. There are so called permits/licenses in the form of illustrated cards that match missions that your character has to complete. You can share these licenses, i.e having the card or not having it and also decide on how many that can be part of a mission.

The level of each player is mostly non-relevant, but some licenses have a certain level requirement. These won't take longer than 40 minutes to complete, approximately. You may carry several licenses at the same time.

Some of the goals of the licenses are:

Killing monsters, skilling up, raids and more. These are called "etherites" and will let you get instantly teleported to said area.

The licenses themselves, these being the cards, are currently named "GuildLeaves".

Quick Highlights of the "GuildLeaves" System

    * Trials of "trust" exist that you get from guilds
    * There's something called a "Leave", which isn't a quest, it's a card
    * Mixing your own Leaves with other player's Leaves is possible
    * By visiting the Adventurers Guild you can obtain Guild Leaves
    * Even when your skill is low you can still get Leaves
    * The approx. time of completing a Leave is around 30 to 40 minutes
    * You're able to set who and how many can do a Leave
    * Even if only one player carries a Leave, other players can join regardless if they have the Leave or not
    * Contests of the Leave change every week
    * You can carry as many Leave cards as you want
    * Apparently the Guild Leaves are quite beautiful, designed like tarot cards and fully illustrated

    Combat

It's been said that the battles will have different strategic elements added to spice things up. SquareEnix has hinted that the game will have an adaptive learning curve: new players will have simpler battles but as they progress the game becomes harder. The game will have large-scale battles that actually require parties to think how to defeat the enemies.

The fights in FFXIV are in real-time, although they will not be as action-packed as some might be used to from other MMORPGS. There will be more strategic elements in place and it many elements will need to be taken into account including placement, ect. Check the trailer for certain speculations.

Items will degrade in durability (resistance?) depending on how much and how often they're being used. This leads to light speculation that class changes might actually be encouraged in the form of the tank switching to healer and the healer switching to tank in longer parties.

It's also been confirmed that there is no auto-attack. Instead you will have to actively build a smooth attack style from your chosen abilities. There will be very few limitations allowing players to effectivel build whatever they want. Dual wield? Put a weapon in each hand and you'll get skill towards it. Sword and shield? Go for it, you'll start gaining skill respectively.

We do not yet know the limitations, however. For example, is using a staff and shield possible? A black mage-like character wearing tank armor? We do not know, but considering that the disciples offer a loose form of "classes" it's reasonable to assume there will be some kind of limitation.

    The Armory System

The core system of Final Fantasy XIV will be the so-called "Armory System" (currently a code name). It is completly focused on your character's equipment. In order to change a play style, you change your equipment parts. Something which is done in real-time.

An example is the following: let's say you join a group of adventurers and you're fighting enemies, if you wear the corresponding equipment you are ready to defeat foes as an archer. When said group has disbanded, you may change gear and you'll return to becoming a fisherman or a gardener, etc.

This will allow for a lot more freedom and it'll make FFXIV quite solo friendly. A warrior who wants to be cured of poison can easily change into a healer by himself. So, having plenty of inventory room is far more important than it was in Final Fantasy XI.

In order to increase in specific areas, Square Enix recommends balancing your equipment parts between the inventory slots. The level of your equipment is essential in Final Fantasy XIV, its more important than your "character level" itself. Square Enix has mentioned the freedom of the system yet again and that it will be a lot more flexible and fun having such a system in place. The team behind FFXIV has deliberately chosen to avoid the usual classes, instead selecting much more neutral names.

Quick Highlights of the Armory System

    * In Final Fantasy XIV there's a larger focus on the level of the items you are using rather than your own level and skills.
    * You're able to switch from warrior to a healer with ease when solo playing - soloing becomes a whole lot more fun and easier.
    * Changing your "class" is as simple as switching your weapon, you can relax and not feel a lot of stress
    * Getting invited to a group which has too many of your current class? No problem, switch to a healer or whatever class they lack numbers in. After the adventure is over, switch back to your previous class; gardener for instance.
    * Weapons and your equipment have their own "levels". You need to coordinate your equipment to reach whatever goal and power type you're aiming at.
    * The "holy trinity" type of classes (healer, tank, damage dealer) have been avoided, the classes of FFXIV are far more neutral.
    * Square Soft promises a lot of freedom in Eorzea. Almost unrestricted freedom!

    Gameplay

The heavy team-play aspect of Final Fantasy XI will be reduced, now exploration and battle is more balanced between solo and team play for more enjoyable battles.

    Online System Information

The PlayOnline system which was used in Final Fantasy XI won't be used anymore, but you can still transfer your friend list to Final Fantasy XIV. Because of the different online system you won't be able to port your Final Fantasy XI characters to Final Fantasy XIV, another thing that prevents the transfer is the fact that the game won't have exactly the same races.

The servers in the game will be worldwide that are cross-platform and cross-region. PC and Playstation 3 users will be able to play with each other on the same servers. If you own both versions you can sign in with a "Square Enix ID" on the PC or Playstation 3 version to pick up where you left off and continue playing.

The maximum population per server will be between 5000-6000 players. The number of playable servers is unknown at this time.

    Online Pricing

SquareEnix has revealed that Final Fantasy XIV will most likely skip the monthly fees and favour 30-day subscription plans instead, since they are so popular. They are more flexible because the days are counted instead, thus removing the need to pay for unused time. The subscription fee is unknown at this time.

It has also been stated that in-game items will not be sold, meaning no cash shop.
