Rep Power: 6 | Clash of Blades Wrote this out of boredom a couple months ago, just thought I'd share. My writing skills suck, I know, anything related to writing in school I hated so I never developed any good writing skills at all. And there might be some mistakes since I never did any proofreading.
Comments are appreciated. Quote:
Sun is setting as a man in green floats through the river on his small sailboat. Wearing a tired look, he raises his head and sees the river ends at a canyon. He’s finally reached the shoreline, after days of being lost at sea. He readies his word and shield on his back, and puts on his floppy green cap, covering his pointy ears that make him look like some kind of elf. A mark of three triangles on his hand, with one of the lower triangles glowing slightly. He gets off the boat and sees not too far away a huge door made out of stones. To the right of his sight, he sees a hill path that leads up. Leads up towards a large gigantic bridge. But that’s not the only thing he sees. At the very end path he sees another man, a wanderer, on top of a black horse. He’s just standing there, looking down on the elf. The man on the horse seems young, wearing worn out clothes and a poncho. He also wields a sword and a bow and arrow on his back, just like the elf. They both look at each other for a several seconds. Though it is their first meeting, they know what’s gonna happen next. The elf knows the wanderer is an obstacle he must overcome to continue, as well as the wanderer knows the elf is someone who’s getting on his way. They’re not enemies, they’re just two men who want to achieve something, but must battle each other in order to achieve their goals.
The elf grabs the hilt of his sword, but doesn’t draw it. He closes his eyes and remembers some word.
“You must kill him if you want to—“
The thought is interrupted as he hears the horse slowing walking down the path into the canyon. The wanderer’s sight is still fixed on the elf. No need for any talk, they just want to get it over with. The elf takes out his bow and arrow and aims at the wanderer. He hesitates for a couple seconds but finally shoots. The arrow flies straight towards the wanderer’s head, and it would’ve killed him instantly if he hadn’t ducked his head. He grasps tightly the reigns and shouts, “Agro!”
The horse speeds up as more arrows begin shooting from the elf’s directions, barely missing by centimeters. The elf then aims to the top and shoots at some rocks that were on the verge of falling. As the arrow strikes them, the rocks fall down right in front Agro’s way. The wanderer pulls the reigns and Agro manages to jump over them. They finally get to the bottom and run towards the elf. The elf one more time aims at the wanderer but instead shoots at Agro on the leg. The arrow misses but manages to make Agro lose its balance and falls down. But right before the horse fell, the wanderer jumps off and draws his sword in midair. He comes down, swinging his sword at the elf with all he’s got. The elf rolls out of the way dodging the attack and puts away his bow and arrow and draws his sword as well. They both take a moment to look at each other. After a few seconds, both of them run at each other swinging their swords. They both seem to have great sword skills as they deflect each other’s attacks swiftly. The elf then uses his foot to kick some sand at the wanderer’s eyes and uses the opportunity to attack him. Barely able to see, the wanderer slightly moves his head to the left, avoiding the killing blow and he himself attacks the elf but the strong shield that the elf grabs at the last moment stops his sword. The wanderer then kicks the elf into the ground and thrusts his sword at him, but this time it’s the elf’s sword that stops the attack.
Suddenly, the wanderer’s sword starts glowing brightly and Agro starts to neigh. Both fighters hear a loud roar coming from the huge door of stones and the ground starts shaking. The wanderer then screams once more for Agro and it comes running to him. The elf stands up and looks at the door with fear. Then the door starts breaking down as a colossal monster starts walking out of it. Agro runs past his master without stopping, and the wanderer grabs on by the neck and gets on the horse. The elf puts his sword away seeing how useless it would be against such monster. He then realizes the wanderer and his horse aren’t running away from the monster, but towards it. That’s when he realizes he must the wanderer from doing such thing; he remembers the words of a man telling him that he needs to stop the wanderer from killing the monster.
The elf then starts running towards the colossus as well as the wanderer starts attacking it with his bow and arrow. The beast roars as the arrows hit it and raises its hooves, stomping around trying to hit the wanderer. Each time one of its hooves hits the ground, the whole place shakes it makes the elf stagger as he runs. The wonderer gets under the colossus and not knowing where he is, it raises both of its frontal hooves real high. The elf looks terrified knowing that once those gigantic hooves land back on the ground it would cause a huge shock on the ground. But the wanderer soon takes his bow and arrow and shoots an arrow at the bottom of the beast’s hooves. The colossus roars in pain as the attack causes the hoof to fall to the ground and buckle out to the side. The wanderer fortunately got out of the way on time or else the giant’s body would’ve crushed him. The elf then realizes the glow on the bottom of the hooves were weak spots. Using Agro, the wanderer quickly runs to the joint and jumps off the horse and onto the colossus, grabbing onto its fur. The colossus gets back up and tries to shake off the wanderer as he makes his way to the near of the giant. He takes out his sword and glows brightly. It also reveals another weak spot and he begins stabbing out.
The elf hears the beast roar after each stab and sees black blood coming out. He knows the beast is dying, and he knows he must stop the wanderer. The colossus spots the elf and begins stomping its feet at him. The elf rolls around avoiding the attacks while waiting for the right timing to hit its weak spot under the hooves. The wanderer finishes stabbing the colossus and raises his sword. Light from the sun reflects from it onto the head of the colossus and the wanderer sees that that’s where the next spot is. He runs through the spine made out of rock, as the beast keeps shaking violently trying to get the wanderer off its back. As the wanderer struggles to get through, he sees a grappling hook attack itself onto one of the rock bones and it pulls the elf onto the colossus’s spine as well. Once again they face each other with their swords, this time battling while trying not to fall from the shaking colossus. The wanderer manages to slash the elf on his right arm, making him fall to his knees. The wanderer takes this opportunity to make his way to the head of the colossus. The weak spot on the top of its head shines brightly, and the wanderer raises his sword about to strike it. He then hears a scream and turns around to see the elf jumping towards him with sword in hands, ready to kill him. The wanderer moves at the last moment out of the way and the elf pierces his sword onto the head of the colossus. The beast roars louder than before as its giant body slowly falls to the ground. Its gigantic body makes the earth shake like never before as it hits the ground. The wanderer looks at the elf and puts his sword away. He jumps off of the colossus onto Agro and runs off back where he came from. The elf takes the sword out of the colossus’s head and puts it away. He sees the wanderer running up towards the bridge, knowing he’s headed towards another monster to slain it. He quickly takes out his grappling hook and throws it at the bridge and quickly climbs up. As he’s climbing, with his other hand he takes out an ocarina and starts playing a tune. As the tune plays, at the top of the bridge a beautiful brown horse with white hair begins to appear; Epona. The elf reaches the top and quickly gets on the horse and sees the wanderer running towards a desert, raising his sword up, looking for the next colossus.
“Hyah!”
The elf orders Epona and follows the wanderer. They both enter the desert and the elf takes out his bow and arrow and starts shooting once again. Agro swiftly dodges the arrows; it was trained very well by its master and is probably the fastest horse alive. The wanderer looks back and puts his sword away. On Agro, a harpoon was attached with ropes. He takes the harpoon and turns around and quickly throws it at the elf. Seeing the harpoon coming towards him, the elf quickly takes out his shield and the harpoon pierces it, but misses the elf’s chest by inches. The elf throws the shield away and takes out his sword. The wanderer then shoots arrows at Epona, hitting its leg and making it fall. The elf gets off and brushes his horse’s hair, as if telling her it was gonna be okay. He then looks up at the wanderer. They’re several meters away from each other. No one moves.
“If you want to come back to this place, then there’s a task you must complete.”
The elf remembers these words as he stares at the wanderer. Blood oozes out of his right arm from the slash the wanderer gave him earlier, but it doesn’t bother him. He just grasps his sword tightly and looks into the wanderer’s face. A face that shows only one emotion: determination. He looks down on the elf, thinking to himself that no one will get in his way. No one will stop him from saving his loved one. He doesn’t want to kill the man in front of him, but if that’s what it takes to bring his love back from the dead, he will do so.
“A man from another world has descended upon this land. That man will try to stop thou from killing the colossi.”
“Why? Who is he?”
"We do not know. But his intentions are clear. If thou are to destroy the colossi, and wish Us from bringing back this maiden, thou must pass through this man.”
That is the conversation the wanderer had with the enigmatic being known as Dormin. He had taken down 13 colossi before and each time he did, he was one step closer to bring her love back to life, just like the Dormin promised. Now, he had taken down one more. But this time it was a harder task than the other 13, because the man from another world stood in his way, and tried to kill him. And he knew it was only gonna get harder, because the man standing in front of him was just as determined as he was.
The elf slowly begins walking, still looking at the wanderer dead in the face. He suddenly begins running towards him. The wanderer stays on Agro, without moving one bit. The earth then begins to shake violently once again, but that doesn’t stop the elf from running. When he’s about to reach the wanderer, from beneath the ground a creature comes up and flies into the skies, taking the elf with it. The creature is another one of the colossi and is a lot bigger than the last one. The elf manages to pull himself together and realizes he’s flying on top of the giant colossus. He looks down and sees the wanderer riding his horse, following the colossus and looking up, thinking of a way to take down the huge colossus. Unlike the last one, this one was peaceful, not attacking either men. The elf sighs and knows that the wanderer will come up with a way to take it down as well so he takes out his bow and arrow. Since he cant do anything else, he plans on attacking the wanderer from the sky, thinking he has the advantage.
The sun is completely out of sight now. It’s dark, not even the light from the moon is seen since thick dark clouds cover it.
The wanderer continues chasing the colossus, avoiding the arrows shooting down from above. After a while, he notices white bulbs on its underside. He tries hitting the ones on the rear with his arrow and they burst. Sand comes out and the colossus falls down a bit, but continues to fly high. He then realizes that’s the weak spot to take it down and the elf begins to worry. The wanderer continues shooting the rest of the bulbs until all of them are destroyed. The colossus then falls to the sand, but continues floating just above the sand. The wanderer then runs with his horse towards it. On the way, he sees the bulbs beginning to fill with sand once more and he knows this is his chance. He runs up next to one of its stone wings and stands up while still riding Agro. He finally jumps on it and grabs on real tight. The colossus begins to rise up into the air once again. The wanderer then makes his way up the wing and onto the backside of the colossus. There, the elf is waiting, sword in hand. They are about to attack each other when thunder is heard and lighting is seen. Rain begins to pour on them and the colossus picks up the speed. But even though the rain and wind is hitting their bodies real hard, the two men stand their ground holding onto their swords.
At the sign of another thunder, they charge at one another and start fighting once again like skilled swordsmen. As they fight, the colossus shakes a bit, making the wanderer lose his footing and fall. The elf strikes down on him, but their swords clash. The wanderer kicks him away and with the pressure of the wind, he’s sent flying all the way to the tail of the colossus. He is able to stop himself by stabbing the tail and grabbing on with all his strength. The wanderer takes this opportunity to stab on one of the colossus’s weak spot. The strike makes the colossus shake hard and the wanderer hurries to the next one. But as he’s running, the colossus begins to turn its body around. The wanderer grabs onto its fur as the colossus turns upside down. Both and wanderer and elf are able to hold on and manage not to fall and the colossus turns his body back to normal. Then the wanderer continues making his way to the next weak spot as the elf manages to climb his way back onto the fur of the colossus and follows the wanderer. The wanderer hits the other weak spot and as he takes the sword out of the giant’s body, he sees the elf coming from behind him. The wanderer moves out of the way, had he not he would’ve been stabbed on the heart. Instead, the elf’s sword pierces the left shoulder. The wanderer screams in pain and swings his sword at the elf, slashing his cheek and making him let go of his sword. He then takes the sword out of his shoulder and is about to throw it at the elf when the colossus begins to turn once again. Instead he uses both swords to stab on the colossus and grabs onto them as the colossus turns his body upside down. The elf grabs onto the fur but loses his grip and falls, but the colossus turns his body back to normal quickly, allowing the elf to grab onto one of its wings. He climbs desperately and sees his sword still pierced on the colossus and the wanderer making his way to the final weak spot that’s on its head. The elf takes his sword and begins running towards the wanderer, but he looks ahead and sees another colossus not too far standing, staring at them. He then runs towards the wanderer but doesn’t reach on time and the final weak spot is pierced, making the colossus roar loudly. It begins to shake and lose control and heads straight at the other colossus. The wanderer and elf know they’re gonna crash into to so they begin to jump off. The other colossus ahead of them extends its hand at it and shoots a ball of fire at the flying colossus, destroying a part of it and making it crash to the side of it. Both fighters jumped off the flying colossus just as it crashed down and landed right in front of the standing colossus.
It points his hand at them and shoots fireballs. They quickly hide behind different barricades that are strong enough to block the attacks. They sit to rest up as they both breath hard and see their bleeding hasn’t stopped. The wanderer looks in the distance and sees Agro running towards him, but he yells at him and shakes his head telling him not to get closer. Agro stops and stays still, waiting for his master to return. The wanderer closes his eyes and sighs as he remembers…
“That maiden's soul? Souls that are once lost cannot be reclaimed... Is that not the law of mortals? With that sword, however... it may not be impossible.”
“Really?!”
“That is of course, if thou manage to accomplish what We askest.”
“What do I have to do?”
“Behold the idols that stand along the wall... Thou art to destroy all of them. But those idols cannot be destroyed by the mere hands of a mortal...”
“Then what am I to do?”
“In this land there exist colossi that are the incarnations of those idols. If thou defeat those colossi--the idols shall fall.”
“I understand.”
“But heed this, the price you pay may be heavy indeed.”
“It doesn't matter.”
“Very well... Raise thy sword by the light... and head to the place where the
sword's light gathers... There, thou shalt find the colossi thou art
to defeat.”
He opens his eyes and looks at the elf, the man who’s been trying to stop him from accomplishing his goal. As he stares at him, he wonders, who is he? Why did he come here? Why is he trying to stop him?
“Link!” a woman screams as the elf is engulfed by darkness and begins to disappear. “Ganondorf, what are you doing to him?!”
“Hahaha! I’m sending him to another world, a world he can’t escape from. Unlesss… he creates a time paradox,” a big dark skinned man turns to look at the elf, at Link. “If you are able to kill the man from that world who is turning the wheels of his fate, you might be able to come back. If you disrupt his wheel of his fate, if you change the course of his life by killing him before he reaches his goal, you will create a portal that’ll bring you back. You must kill him if you want to come back and save your dear princess!”
Link looks at the wanderer as well. Both of them are just trying save someone they love. Both of them are just trying to do the right thing. But to do that, one of them must pay a price… they give each other a look. Not a look of hate, or grudge, or intent to kill. But a look of understanding, of acknowledgement. They both understand each other’s thoughts and goals even though they’ve never said a word to each other. And with this in mind, they get up and draw their swords, and begin running towards the colossus; the final colossus.
The wanderer heads first, and Link follows, trying to stop him. The colossus continues shooting fireballs at them but they dodge them easily. They reach the colossus’s feet, and the wanderer begins to climb its body. The colossus’s body is full of obstacles and puzzles that Link loses sight of the wanderer easily. But he knows the wanderer is headed towards the head of the colossus, so Link takes his own route to meet him there. They climb the body quickly, knowing this is it, this is the final challenge for both of them. The colossus tries to shake them off but they hang on real well. It then uses its hands to grab them but they both use their swords to stab the hands and keep them away. They then climb into each of the hands. The colossus brings his hands together and they start exchanging blows on top of the colossus’s hands. The colossus separates its hands and tries to shake them off, but is unable to. Their determination doesn’t allow them to fall now that they’ve come so far.
After several minutes, they both reach the shoulders of the beast. They see each other once again and the beast starts shaking. They grab onto the neck until it stops shaking.
But they remain there for a few seconds, with their eyes closed, letting them feel the rain hit their faces. Who knows what they’re thinking now. They finally come out after a couple more seconds and start fighting one last time. Though both of them are bleeding from their wounds, they are still able to fight flawlessly. The colossus starts shaking its body again, but this time it doesn’t bother them. They continue fighting their fight, a fight to the death. The wanderer then manages to knock the sword off Link’s hands and it gets stuck on the stone made body. The wanderer thrusts his sword at Link but misses as Link rolls out of way and goes after his sword. The wanderer then climbs on the colossus’s head and is about to stab its weak spot when it starts shaking its head violently. He grabs onto the fur real hard so he doesn’t fall. Once it stops shaking, Link appears and they begin fighting once more. They fight with all their might and strength that their bodies begin to tire they start to have a hard time swinging their swords. Wanderer then slashes Link across the chest and makes him move away from him, but he manages to slash the wanderer on the chest as well. As they both fall to their knees, the colossus’s hand sneaks up on them and grabs Link. It picks up Link high above the head and the wanderer raises his sword ready to strike the colossus. The seconds turn to minutes as the final blow is about to be delivered. Link won’t allow himself to be defeated here; he needs to return to his homeland and save the princess. He stabs the colossus’s hand and it lets go of him. He jumps off the hand and grabs the sword tightly with both his hands as he comes down ready to strike down the wanderer. The wanderer holds his sword tightly as well; even blood comes out of his hands.
They both let out a loud final yell as they strike down with all their might.
Silence. Complete and utter silence. The rain suddenly stops and the only thing that’s falling is blood. But whose blood?
Wanderer groans in pain, Link’s sword pierced through his shoulder. However, at the last moment, he turned his sword up and Link landed right into it, piercing his heart. As he breathes his last breaths, Link looks at the stranger in front of him and apologizing to his princess in his mind he accepts his defeat.
“I’m sorry,” says the wanderer to the stranger whose heart was destroyed by his sword. Link doesnt understand the wanderer's language, but he doesnt need to. The look on the wanderer's face says it all.
The colossus who was quiet, begins to roar. But it wasn’t a loud, threatening roar. Instead, it sounded more like a weep, like a cry, as if it were a spectator to their sad story.
The wanderer takes his sword out of Link’s body and takes the sword out of his shoulder as well, this time without feeling any pain, his body was already numb… and Link was already dead. He puts Link’s sword on his chest and closes his eyes. The colossus then grabs the dead Link with both his arms and puts him down slowly on the ground. The wanderer wonders why the colossus is acting like this. His eyes begin to get heavy. His body has lost a lot of blood and he can barely hold his sword. But even though he feels like he shouldn’t kill the colossus, he looks into the distance and sees a huge castle, the castle where his love awaits. He remembers her smile and with the last ounce of strength, strikes down on the colossus, and falls down.
The colossus lets a soft, quiet groan and slowly lowers his head… |
