Chapter 11

The two horses sped side by side through the forest. Mogi the mage floated alongside his master trying hard to keep up with them. Deeper and deeper they went. The path started to descend downhill. Nelo could hear the rushing of water in the distance. The air started to become warm and humid. After a long while of meandering through the forest they arrived at a small, secluded lagoon. The trees parted and there was a shimmering waterfall falling off the rocks ahead.

“Woow. Boss that looks beautiful.”

“Hehe….yees. It does. Here is the place I used spend most of my days training. Come Neloangelo. Let us head towards the waterfall.”

They walked around a glistening pool and up towards a small rock.

“The water here has some very special affects. It is always warm and it calms the soul. Come sit. Feel its mystical power running through your veins.”

Nelo took off his cloak and black top and stepped into it. He sat under the rushing waters and instantly he felt calmer. He closed his eyes and Mitsunare sat next to him.”

“Do you feel it? Relax yourself. Let your mind be blank, do not think, just feel.”

Nelo fell silent and tried hard not to think. He let his body relax and let the water flow gently over him. After a while in his mind a white mist formed. He could see something appearing. The mist dispersed and he found himself looking at a village. Children were playing in the midday, sun and the streets were full of people shopping in the old market stalls. The tradesmen were shouting out discounts to attract customers and the people were conversing delightfully. It was a happy village with happy people.
But in a small corner of a stall, near a narrow alley, a little boy sat quietly leaning against the wall. He couldn’t be seen and it seemed like he didn’t want to be seen. He had ragged long hair and a tattered, brown, sleeveless robe. He looked homeless and there were tears in his red eyes. They didn’t show fear but rather anger. He looked no more than ten years old. He sat with his arms folded across his legs and just stared silently at the ground.

Hours had passed and still the little boy sat not budging from his seat. Nobody seemed to notice he was there.

Suddenly a flash of red light struck through Nelo’s mind and he could see flames erupting. He was inside a house and could hear screaming. Then he heard a slash and a thud. Blood splattered onto his face.

He opened his eyes abruptly with a gasp, panting heavily. “Wh….no…”

“Boss, what happened?” asked Mogi.

“I…I don’t know…I saw someone…” He put his hand on his temple and was squeezing it.

“What do you mean my friend?” said Mitsunare putting his hand on Nelo’s shoulder. “You saw another vision?”

“Y..yes…But this time it was from my past long ago…I think…”
“Sometimes that can happen. The waters unlock a hidden past held deep within your mind. Was it you who you saw?”

“I think so…but I do not remember any of that happening.”

“Of course you don’t, your forgetting that you reborn again. The memory is from the life you had before. What was it you saw?”

“I…saw me as a child. I was in a village square and alone. I don’t know how I got there but I was crying. Then…I was in a burning house…I saw a figure decapitate someone…” he stopped and was panting slowly.

Mitsunare pondered for a while and then spoke, “It must have been a repressed memory. I think we should head back home. Come my friend.”

They put there tops back on and headed for their horses. Nelo was still thinking about what he saw. A repressed memory? Who did I see? Who did they kill?

“My friend, do not think about it. The answer will come in time. It seems there is a lot more about your past that is unknown. I think the answers will come slowly as you learn to free your mind. We shall return here tomorrow.”

They mounted their steeds and headed back to Mitsunares’ home.

***

Twelve black, armoured horses ran through an open field. The riders all wore black, spiked armour and carried a variety of weapons. Leading the knights was the huge, towering Ghoda wielding his massive broadsword on his back. Around his fist was the bandanna of Ting, his latest victim. Ghoda had a thing for keeping a souvenir from his last victim until he killed another.

They were heading for an ancient village known as the Village of the White Mages, to get some answers. Ghoda didn’t understand how Bijomaru knew that Neloangelo lived here, and was a little suspicious of it.

They continued to the end of the field for they arrived at a cliff. Overlooking the cliff there was the village. But there was a semi-circular, transparent barrier protecting the village. Two long, thin, white cloaked mages stood at opposite ends of the barrier, guarding it.

Ghoda gave a grunt and commanded, “You six head down the right path I’ll take the left with the others. Move out!” They split their way down to the village. They would get in by whatever means necessary.

The Mages sensed intruders as the knights got nearer, Ghoda stared the one facing him into his eyes, for that was the only thing visible on their faces. All the mages cloaks and their hats covered their faces shrouding it in a dark shadow. Only their yellow gleaming eyes were visible.

This mages eyes gleamed with anger as the knights neared. He threw a raging fire spell at one of the knights setting him alight. The metal on his armour heated up and sent him running like a rag doll. Ghoda dismounted his horse and took off his helmet. His long, brown hair fell lightly across his face; his dark green cloak covered his big muscular body.

The mage spun elegantly and slowly, steadily increasing his speed. He spun faster and faster till a typhoon surrounded him. The typhoon raged into a hurricane and headed straight for the knights. They all braced themselves but were sent soaring back whilst on their horses for the power of the spell was too strong.
But Ghoda still stood, not moving a muscle. The mage looked back in shock as he saw the huge knight still standing. Then he spoke, “What kind of creature are you? No man has ever withstood my Typhoon spell.”

“Let’s just say, I am no man.” With that said he drew his broadsword and charged at the mage whilst roaring. He impaled him with fury. White mist seeped from the mages abdomen. His eyes slowly lost their gleam and after a while his body evaporated into thin air.

“See if the other one has been killed by the rest of the knights.”
As soon as he said that the others appeared with the mage tied up on a horse.

“General Ghoda, we captured the mage.”

Ghoda walked up to him and growled in his deep threatening voice, “Speak. How do I disarm the barrier?”

“I will never tell.”

“Very well” He threw him off the horse and he dropped to the floor on his knees. Ghoda then sliced him from head to toe with his sword. He also diffused into thin air leaving a white mist to evaporate from him.
Suddenly the barrier disappeared. The mages seemed to be the keys.

“Fools. Mount your horse’s men, we go inside.”

Careful Lectori, it will consume your social life if you're not careful.... that's what happened to mine, anyway. ^_^
