Chapter 12

But the mages of course were no fools.

The knights entered into the forest that surrounded the village. The path ahead seemed straightforward…or was it. The horses sped across the path that meandered in and out towards the village. Ahead were two trees that lay in the path, in between them could be seen a few huts and cottages of the village. Ghoda’s steed sped in first but as soon as it set foot in the village it was back in the forest again. The horses kept on going without realising what was happening. Every time it stepped into the trees it was back out in the entrance of the forest. They were going in an endless circle.

Ghoda realised it was a booby trap. The mages had cast a spell on the entrance that made intruders go in circles. The horses kept on going into the trees and coming out into the forest again.

“Halt! Dammit. There has to be another way.”

The enraged titan dismounted and stood facing the two trees.
“Hmm…there must be something triggering the trap. Search the area men. Find anything that looks suspicious.”

Ghoda eyed the trees carefully. They were not ordinary trees. They emitted a distinctive glow. He raised his huge sword with one arm and gave a powerful blow to the tree. Nothing happened as he expected. After a while of thinking he put his hand in between the two trees and saw a small ripple form in thin air. It was an invisible barrier. He stared closer and looked carefully at the small huts in the village that could be seen.
“Hmm…what’s this?” He saw a signpost next to what looked like a barn. The writing on it was back to front. “This is a mirror,” he said stroking the barrier.

He looked behind him to see that there were another two identical trees in the distance, but in between them was nothing but darkness. He headed straight for it and stopped in front of it. He put his hand into it and the same ripple effect appeared. “Those clever little mages,” he chuckled.

“Men, follow me.” He mounted his horse and so did the knights with bemused looks on their faces. Ghoda ran straight into it and the men followed. They were in the village. Ghoda had figured out the trap.

The village was not a village at all. It was a fake village they saw through the barriers and from atop the hill. The mages kept the true identity of the village hidden.
It was more a grand city with small, castle like houses for the inhabitants. Silver bricks lay out the paths to different parts of the city, the trees were majestic and stood up to forty feet tall, and the emerald leaves glistened off of them. Even the cities horse’s looked magnificent, with a much more muscular stature than the knight’s horses and their manes shone valiantly.

“Wow, this is nothing like the black mage village, in fact it’s completely the opposite” said one knight.

Far in the distance could be seen the palace of Master Tenkai.
“Hmm…the damn white mages all this time have been living in luxury while we live in a damp dark forest! Men ready your weapons. Destroy the city! Burn it to the ground! Kill them all!”

Outside the mage palace entrance stood a red cloaked figure from head to toe. The bright red sheet covered the figure entirely. It sort of floated, as its feet could not be seen, towards the palace gates. Two mage knights stood at the gate and stopped the figure. “Who goes there? You cannot enter without permission.”

“I am looking for a man. He goes by the name Neloangelo.” The figure spoke. It was a woman.

“Hey, how do you know that name, and why do you come here to look for him? Speak.”

“I have already said too much, is he here?”
“No he is not and you will tell us lady, how did you know to look for him here?”

Suddenly a loud horn blew out and a booming voice spoke.
“We are under attack; mages get to the city now. Intruders have breached the city. I repeat we are under attack!”

“What!” said the mage who was questioning the woman and looked at his companion, “Let’s go!”

They took flight for the city leaving the red cloaked figure where she stood.

“Intruders?” with that said she took off towards the village throwing the red cloak to the floor.

The knights went on a rampage. The mages were not all experience and hadn’t mastered their magic. But the mage Warrior Knights had. From the sky came soaring an army of white mages, looking like the ones that were guarding the village outside. Their eyes showed extreme anger as they gleamed yellow with fury.

Fire, water, ice, lightening spells came raining down at the knights. The knights knew they could not retreat for it would be cowardice, and they knew what would happen then.
The fought back attacking the mage warriors dropping them out of the sky. A war had broken out. The chaos raged and the town was feeling the effects. The houses and trees were aflame and being broken. The knights were fighting each other with no relent.

But sat on his horse, with that same nonchalant look he always had, was Ghoda. He just watched as the men and mages fought each other, as the city burned, as the mage woman and children ran in fear, without a care in the world.

“You haven’t changed one bit Ghoda, still acting like the big buffoon you are.”

Ghoda got off his horse and turned slowly at the person who just said that.
“Who dares to insult me?” He took his blade of his back and faced the person. It was the woman.
She wore a bright red, elegant long-sleeved kimono, which had a beautiful design of petite, golden flowers on it. It had a large bow on the back and the lower part of the kimono had a slit near the knees to reveal her bare legs. She wore sandals. She had fair skin and had her brown hair in a bundle. She looked like a beautiful geisha.

“You…look very familiar…You are beautiful….Who are you?”

“Your worst nightmare!” she soared straight at him in the blink of an eye and slashed him across his huge chest with a small thin Wakizashi blade called the ‘Ugetsu Kageuchi’. Her blade had penetrated through his chest plate and cut him. Blood slowly oozed from the wound.

“Where is Neloangelo?” she asked holding her blade pointed towards the chest of the titan. She was half his size but showed absolutely no fear. “Tell me or I will kill you here and now!”
