Between Quill 36-37-38 ~Ancient History~


Toom-toom, toom-toom, toom-toom, toom-toom, the two great zoids, the Battle Cougar and Orudios (a tad bit bigger) walked side by side, save for the Oridios’ bigger body thus longer strides making Dendjue walk the alicorn zoid no faster than a sluggish pace.

Despite being a Ghost, Dendjue could still pilot it, for animals of any sort tend to have that sixth sense* of noticing ghostly beings; even though the pilot pit was empty, Dendjue’s presence was very there along side with the Orudios’ consciousness controlling it through only the suggestions of his thoughts.

Riku on the other hand, had to suffer the corporeal tensions of controlling his zoid through buttons, and gears, and hand steering levers, and signals, and bloody hell he’s just thrilled the damn thing is walking straight; the consciousness of the Battle Cougar wasn’t exactly thrilled with its new pilot:


*Grab both levers tightly, and push down on them,* came Dendjue’s voice through the radio transmission (showing that empty pilot seat), *Grab them tightly, good, good.* Riku felt all around him the subtle hum of tons of machinery working in a complex fashion; the life of the zoid.

*This is a living machine,* Riku thought, *And I’m sitting in its head….*

*The Battle Cougar is at your command Riku, now get it to walk. Push forward on the levers slowly, barely move them, the levers* - Riku did exactly as Dendjue told him, and the great creature walked, Riku feeling the remnants of its immense bulk swaying side to side gently in the pilot pit, he was holding the levers so tightly his knuckles were white with adrenaline, tap, his excitement betrayed the control of his own functions as his foot kicked forward, hitting a gear – ZOOOO – the zoid sounded like it was powering up, or something worse, alarming Riku to half stand up in his seat, the humming intensifying into a thick vibration, but he didn’t let go of the levers – *Riku – did you –?!* – WOOSH! The Battle Cougar took off ripping Riku’s grip from the levers – knocking him flat into his seat! *RIKU!* - and the Orudios took off after him –

The seat belts that held him gave little comfort as the zoid ran for all its worth thundering under him (still bouncing him around hard), taking sharp banking turns and dizzying zig-zags with the levers left at their own loose mercy – the weight of the speed kept Riku pinned and his breath stifled, but he had to grab those levers! *Push yourself forward!* Dendjue yelled through the transmission the Orudios almost along side it, *Push! The weight of this speed is nothing if you crash into the iron rocks!*

Riku sucked in all the air he could and with the new oxygen to his muscles forced himself forward grabbing the levers – *Pull back!* Riku did, slowly, steadily, imprinting the creases of the metal levers in his hands through his palm gloves, and the zoid began to lose momentum, slowing down. Dendjue broke from alongside him leaving him to turn the levers right and left, maneuvering the zoid around the oncoming iron boulders and out into the open (although Riku suspected that Orudios with its great horn was more than capable of smashing those boulders to pieces). *Good job Riku!* said Dendjue catching up alongside him again, *But let’s not jump lessons again, okay? You have to learn to walk before you can run.*

“And crawl before you can walk,” muttered Riku with his heart pounding, “My foot accidentally kicked out and hit a gear.” Riku sat up in his seat and planted both feet firmly on the ground, close to the chair. A little light illuminated the little words [EXHAUST BUILD-UP] on the control panel and Riku reported it to Dendjue.

*It’ll take care of itself,* said Dendjue, *But you have to bring the Battle Cougar down to a walk first.* Riku obeyed and heard the release of steam or some other air-induced stress; the little light cut off. *The more extreme an act a zoid performs, the more Waste builds up from its use of power, like how a human body works when we eat food, or even get scared.*

“Scared?”

*Yeah, you scared the **** out of the zoid.*

“Oh, eap, sorry big guy.”

The zoid gave a low metallic agitated hum.

Further lessons carried on with just as worrisome results, for when Riku tried to put the zoid into a steady trot, for some reason be it an accidental button press or moving a gear the wrong way, the wings on the Battle cougar lowered and the back boosters came on – Riku immediately felt the tons of metal wanting to take flight as the rough movements from an imbalanced trot forced beyond its typical pace were getting fainter and fainter as more and more of the sky took up his window view – Dendjue yelled for him to cut the boosters off by pressing the top right button on the right lever and apparently pressing them both caused the Battle Cougar to jump – and Riku was airborne! – going straight up (and still trotting) for about one full minuet of terror until Dendjue finally screamed loud enough for him to hear to push the big shiny red button to his right, and the power to the zoid was reset to its basic land functions, cutting all electrical surges to the wings and boosters – and thus the zoid (no longer trotting) fell like a rock with the wings repositioning themselves for standby – *BRACE YOURSELF!*-

To the zoid, it certainly wasn’t so great a drop, and the shocks in its legs were more than capable of absorbing the weight given that it is a flying-type zoid, but to the tiny, little, particle sized human within the metal beast – WHA–TOUM – it was like landing with a sledgehammer smashing you above and below the gut and Riku bounced around like a rag doll – his arm hit something, something clicked, and the zoid began a stable run, prancing like a cat, Riku caught hold of the levers, his legs unstable with the powerful gallop and his foot kicked something again, TOUP, which was the mother of all brakes since the zoid came to a perfect, and absolute, dead, halt, but the laws of momentum being what they were, and the front claws sinking into soft sand at just the right moment, the zoid flipped up and over onto it’s back – TOUM – the sound of crashing metal settling audible for miles, and before Riku was even conscious of moving, he guessed he had bumped into something else since the zoid tried walking on air, balanced perfectly on its wings and back – another little light came on [EMERGENCY RECTIFICATION] and the zoid collapsed one wing and rolled over picking itself up on all fours as loosely and as smoothly as if it had joints and muscles instead of hydraulics and metal. Riku moaned in his seat, battered, bruised, and his insides feeling like they were icy and squirmy –

*You alright Riku?*

“Yeah, I’m fine, but I have some exhaust build up.”

*Don’t get bummed, that went well for your first time Sport,* said Dendjue, and Riku heard all too clear the sarcasm in his voice, but then Dendjue got serious, *It’s not your fault Riku, these are old models with old functions and rougher, tougher designs and complex signals, the newer models are simplified and easier to drive, but these guys, though it takes a while to get used to their controls, they’re still superior, an oldie but a goodie.*

“Thanks big brother,” replied Riku.


Riku had to learn to pilot. Apparently there is no greater insult to a pilot if a zoid has to walk itself, but that only applied to the zoids that were “aware” and Riku’s zoid was very much aware of his inability as a pilot. He had a better grasp of the controls already, he just needed to not bounce around so much so he tightened his seat belt to the point of hurting himself a little, and not to mention the zoid was walking steadily.

“Denjdue.”

*Yeah.*

“Tell me more about Kairi and Ragiel’s relation, if Kairi is the last of the Sovereign Royalty and sister to Ragiel, then that meant Ragiel” –

*Had Sovereign blood in him, yes he did, but that didn’t make him special I suppose, he was only half Sovereign, I don’t know about Kairi if she is full blooded or not, or even Cross-Blooded, but that’s a whole other mess in of itself. The Queen found herself a good man in the Anime System during a tour or whatever, and nine months later, after twice trying to abort the child, she had Ragiel. I learned that from Izzy. I guess she found another good man for Kairi though I don’t know who her daddy is. The King was not too happy about Ragiel being what he was, but they needed an heir. The Queen had a hard time getting pregnant, most likely I bet because the King had some defects he didn’t want to admit, and Ragiel proved that all her functions were working fine, even though with their technology she was well aware the fault didn’t lie with herself.*

“So your saying the Sovereign Queen only had Ragiel to make a point to the King? That’s awful!”

*Not exactly mother-of-the-year material, but yeah. Ragiel was allowed to stay in their great castle, but only till like around he was five or so, ‘cause then came Kairi, and the King booted him out to the Anime System to live with his real dad, so with that in mind, I guess Kairi is full-blooded. Ragiel doesn’t remember those times too well, or I think he doesn't want to, all he’d say is that before he lived with his dad he lived in a place where it was always cold and he couldn’t touch anything.*

“Where’s his dad now? Is he still alive?”

*I don’t know, although he and Ragiel lived in Tokeio Town, his father’s like a leaf blowin’ in the wind, and when Ragiel became a Master they grew more and more distant, Ragiel with his responsibilities, and his father with his.*

“Did, Ragiel and Kairi ever get to meet one another?”

*Oh sure when they were little, the Queen wasn’t totally heartless and would take a trip every month to let the siblings play together. Ragiel was so darn protective of Kairi and always asked for her approval of anything even though most of the time she’d only make baby sounds, eventually she would learn how to talk and say yes and no or just nod her head playfully. (*Sigh*) Ragiel loved her a whole lot, what did it matter if they were half-siblings? They were still siblings. He said she was his precious sister that he’d always protect, no matter what, ‘I’m your big brother Kairi, and though we live way away from one another, I’ll always be your brother, and you my sister.’…….And then the Queen stopped coming by one month, and didn’t return the month after that, or the month after that, or the month after that. Finally, word came down that the Sovereigns had had an attempt on their lives and that the Queen would no longer take Kairi to visit him. That devastated Ragiel, he wasn’t able to protect his sister, or then even be able to see her again.*

“………It was the Riders that finally killed the Sovereigns right?”

*Yeah.*

“So what’s the Lady’s beef with the Sovereigns?”

*All I know is that the Lady had a burning passion against them, I don’t know what for though, Izzy wouldn’t tell me, but she really, really hated the King and especially the Queen, or maybe she has a beef with any Royalty, I dunno dude. She killed off the Anime Royalty when she was six* -

“Six?”

*Six, she’s wise beyond her years and bat **** insane, we don’t know what she is, but she hates, hates, hates how things are run, how, things have Orders that separates, and dictates, and humiliates potential, and then she goes off and raises South Light and Nefero and brings existence as we know it wrapped up in terror.*

“So she wants anarchy?”

*Not exactly, otherwise why would she be building up her forces with Death Generals and whatnot instead of killing off the Royalty and more Masters? She does all these crazy experiments, I would know, and trying to harness powers that should never be messed with, the ultimate darkness, the Chrost-Weik, and then I overheard Izzy talking with her brother one day that they suspect the Lady intends to exorcize both Natures, to extract from them the Spirits of Light and Darkness trapped within them to bring about an Astral Shift that may very well destroy the physical plain as we know it! But then again, that is all speculation, if we really wanna know, we’d have to ask the Lady herself right?*

“Yeah,” Riku replied all tingly.

*Loosen up Riku, we’ve got a lot of good people on our side that are willing to fight against the Lady and her madness, we just have to find them. And we have to help ourselves out before anything else, the Lady could probably kill you by staring hard.*

“You are so comforting Dendjue.” Suddenly locking a world seemed like child’s work to what they would eventually face with the Lady and her crap.

*We are making a difference Riku, whether you think so or not. I know that silence coming from you, I perfected that silence. The Lady has a soft spot for the Anime System, we are all where we need to be. There are bigger things at work here that we can never hope to understand, we have just have to put faith in ourselves and go forward.* Both zoids hummed.

“Do you know what Nefero and South Light are capable of?”

*They’re every bit as bad to the core as the Lady, let’s take South Light for example, that walking vacuum. South Light’s aura is like a black hole that sucks away at people’s souls; you have to build yourself up to be able to resist that effect she has. And she’s a cannibal, I think; she eats people, though I seriously doubt she’s human.*

“She eats people?”

*Not the bones, but everything else goes down the hatch. Also she likes to drink people’s Ghosts, and she does that through the mouth, ick, that is sexual harassment if you ask me. She got me mouth to mouth one time, caught me off guard and got too close and then (Dendjue made a sucking sound which made Riku’s stomach curl.) Long story short, she managed to get half my Ghost down her gullet before Ragiel and Lorenia with the Deities broke in and scared her off.*

“How did you survive that?”

*I don’t have the slightest clue. They managed to get me back to Tokieo Town in time, and Euphoria and Aurocile fixed me back up. I was bedridden for only a week if you can imagine that, but in that time, Ragiel never left my side. Lorenia, took up scouting duties and the Deities were kind enough to help her out while I was down and Ragiel looking after me.*

“Ragiel was really worried about you huh?”

*Yeah, that boy cares too dang much, I mean I was gonna be okay,* Dendjue sighed, *When I had finally woke up, he was leaning over the bed rail and was asleep on my chest. He would tell me later on that he was listening to my heart to make sure that it was beating right since, when they had rushed me to Tokieo Town, it wasn’t beating at all. Yep….that scared the hell out of him, which reminds me of this one time between him and Lorenia. A nurse lady, when Lorenia was getting a check up on her Dark Atone disease, decided to play a stupid prank on Ragiel.*

“What did she do?”

*She ran into the waiting room and screamed – ‘LORENIA JUST DIED OF A HEART ATTACK*!’*

“Are you serious?....What did Ragiel do?”

*Oh no, it’s what he could’ve done. You see, once Ragiel tore through time and space to see the love of his life, and the next life might I add, was actually just taking a nap during the procedure, that nurse lady heard the trumpet of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse and jumped out of a fifth story window to avoid him.*

“Well, what goes around comes around, you don’t play with people like that,” said Riku.

*Yeah, I’m hoping we can send that message to the Lady and her subordinates,* said Dendjue, *And yet Seritouge gets away with that **** all the time. Seritouge thinks it would have been easier for Keyblade Masters to do their jobs if they had no attachment to the world, you know, like monks, but, that’s a stupid notion since we get our strength from the worlds, our memories, our Keyblades….So Ragiel was doubly screwed since his best friend and the love of his life were both Keyblade Masters. My best friends are Keyblade Masters, Lorenia’s best friend and boyfriend are Keyblade Masters. We’re going to get hurt, that’s just something that comes with the territory. We either live with the pain, or hang up our Keychains.*

“You guys lived through a lot.”

*Yeah, but not everything.*

“Maybe my friends and I are in the same boat, Sora is a Master, and now, Kairi is one too.”

*Yeah, but you guys are alive, and we’re gonna make sure it stays that way,* said Dendjue, *Here’s the thing about South Light, she is phenomenally weak against physical attacks, I mean, someone, anyone, could just punch her hard in the chest and kill her just like that.*

“Let me guess though,” said Riku in a knowing tone, “Her magic abilities more than make up for her lack of physical resistance…?”

*Oh you have no, idea,* teased Dendjue, *One of South Light’s nicknames is the Forbidden Deity.*

“That sounds absolutely alluring; what about Nefero?”

*That ******* has nine lives and is a master at both melee and magical attacks, whereas South Light is a complete magic user, Nefero is well balanced, though he like to stay more physical. His favorite attack is Blood Lust* – if he rakes you when his claws are glowing red, if you’re not ripped apart first, you’ll die of blood loss really quick since you won’t be able to stop bleeding, ever, unless you get Seraph level or Spiritual magic to help you stat; even a little scratch from that will still drain you like a sink. Not to get gross or anything, but Nefero likes blood. Not to drink, he’s not a vampire, but he likes to lay in it because it’s so warm. He doesn’t have a drop of blood in his body and suffers from a coldness we’ll never know, that’s why his fur is black, to help keep him warm, and thus he doesn’t like Ice type attacks too much.*

“Can you teach me some Ice* magic?”

*Child…..child……you are talking to a specialist of Ice magic,* said Dendjue, inflating his feathers again, *I will gladly take you under my wings young penguin, and show you the ways of the snow and flake.*

Riku gave a chuckle, “Alright then, what is the Lady weak against?”

Dendjue gave a grumble along with the Orudios, *Fizzles, I think the only thing that can damage her is her pride.*


Oh how right you are >_< [Imagine the Lady right now bed ridden, wrapped up in bandages with a thermometer in her mouth and South Light reading to her bed time stories of genocide and deceit while rocking her bed like a cradle]

Great piece of reading SA. Lot's of insight and info, and Riku piloting a zoid, LOL. But I just had a thought, wouldn't Riku be kinda against possession because of his experience with Xehanort. It's just a thought I had.
