| I Got Next | Prologue "So, this is it huh? After all the killing, after all the destruction, after all the pain, through the trials and past the tribulations; after seeing the top of the mountain, it comes down to this." Tears began to flow from the man's light brown eyes, blood shot from countless nights of sleep deprivation. He held the young girls limp body in his arms, her cold flesh rubbing against his skin. The vacant eyes on her pale face were staring into his own, something she used to do often; it was as if death was mocking him, menacingly looking at him through her retinals. A tear fell from the man's face into one of her eyes, slipping out and running down her cheek as if it were her own. For a long time that was all he could do, just sit there and weep. Finally, building up the strength to move on, the man rose from the ground with the girl still in his arms. Slowly but surely, he began to walk into the blinding light that was before him. ~~~ Chapter 1: "The Life and Times of Q. Miller" It was friday. Q hated fridays. Most optted to go out on fridays, to enjoy the cities clubs; some for dancing and others for waxing poetically about the mysteries of the universe. Not Q. Q hated fridays with an intense passion that burned his soul like the very fires of hell. The most bizarre part about his hatred was that he had no idea why he hated the day so much. He simply did, and that was enough for him. Taking a second to glance out of the lone window of his one bedroom apartment, he saw what one would normally see; hover craft darting this way and that, Gabriels hovering in the air every two-hundred feet, security cameras recording everything in sight, nothing out of the ordinary. Seemingly disgusted by the view outside, he pushed a button on his remote and the curtain began to pull itself closed; making a low humming noise as the device drug the curtains across the window pane. Sighing, Q darted his vision to the alarm clock on his dresser. 12:45 p.m., still early. Deciding he didn't especially need to be awake right now anyway, Q pulled the covers back over his head and fell back in the deep slumber from whence he came... "And this is the part where I pull a mallet from behind my back and pound that horrid alarm clock into a million pieces." 1:00 p.m. Among the things that Q hated, and he hated quite a few things, somewhere in his top five was alarm clocks. He knew they were necessary for a fellow such as himself, but that didn't make them any less annoying. As he pushed the big red "OFF" button on his digital clock he forced himself out of bed. He was wearing nothing but boxers, white with dark-red stripes. His coffee-brown skin was glistening with sweat, he had obviously had the heat up much too high. He stood about five-foot eleven, with a skinny body build. Walking into the bathroom across from his bed, he looked in the mirror. He had a rather bland face, nothing realy sticking out about him. He then lowered his head and began to ready himself for the day, or at least what was left of it. Q, after putting on baggy jeans and a hooded sweat-shirt, the whole outfit black, walked out of his third-floor apartment. He proceeded down the hallway, waving at various other tennats in the building. Oh how he hated each and every one of them, if only they knew. Finally he found his sweet salvation, an empty elevator. He almost skipped to the door, quickly pushing the "close doors" button. He rode it down to the main lobby, the doors reopening with a loud "ding." As he walked towards the door to exit the building, he realized he had no idea where he was going. He had a bad feeling about this day, and best-selling author Quincy Miller's felings were almost never wrong. Coming up: Chapter 2: "The Book In The Belfry" |
