Rep Power: 5 ![]() | This is my first one-shot...well...my first fanfic actually XD. I hope you guys like it...please comment! Any constructive criticism would be welcomed :]. Just to let you know...this could get a little dark and angsty =|. `````````` ``~~*~~`` `````````` I NEED MORE AFFECTION THAN YOU KNOW The perpetual waves rose and retreated over the glistening sand as the warm sun sunk in the distance. The soft soundtrack of the scene slowly died as a songbird concluded its last lullaby. A perfect portrait of paradise...or so it was meant to be. A gentle breeze slowly blew the silver hair away from Riku's icy turquoise eyes. He sighed as he reached down and let the sand fall through his fingers like diamonds for the hundredth time. He was back...finally back. He had been praying for a moment like this...a moment to sit here and gaze at the horizon at the end of a limitless sea, without a care in the world...He got that wish...most of it, anyway. Riku let his elbows unlock as he lowered himself onto the warm sand, letting his eyes soar across the sky. 'Why can't I just be happy?' he thought with another sigh. 'Why do I have to torture myself with these thoughts?' he wondered as he turned his head to face the bridge. 'Oh...that's why' he thought as he allowed his eyes to wander to the paopu tree, where Sora and Kairi 'sat'...seemingly glued together. Riku turned away quickly as a familiar emotion resembling disgust blended with jealousy arose within him once again. ‘We’ve only been back three days, and it’s like this already…’ Riku thought as he rose to his feet, pacing the shoreline. “Hey Riku!” shouted someone behind him. Riku turned excitedly. It was Sora and Kairi. “Yea?” he replied, smiling. ‘Finally!’ He thought happily. ‘A chance to finally talk.’ “G’night!” Sora shouted back as he waved, continuing his walk with Kairi attached to his side. “Night…” said Riku softly as his smile faded and his heart returned to its normal place. He turned away once again and walked to the small waterfall near the entrance of the secret place and sat at the edge, letting the water run over his hand. He needed so badly to talk to those two, to just be with them. He wished so earnestly to go back in time two years, when the three of them would laugh for hours on the beach, so innocent. And when the fond memories came back, Riku experienced a new sensation…a burning feeling in his eyes…and along with it, his vision blurred and cleared as a salty tear fell into the small pool, lost forever in the swirling vortex. ‘I can’t believe this,’ Riku thought, devastated. ‘They just don’t need me anymore…they don’t need me with them…they don’t want me with them’ he concluded with a stifled gasp. ‘Nothing is what it used to be…and its not going back. Things have changed. They’ve changed. I’ve changed.” Standing up again, Riku turned to face the tiny paopu island, when to his surprise he bumped into Namine, startled. “A-are you okay?” Namine asked quickly, surveying Riku’s sorrow-stricken face. “Yeah…” he replied slowly. “I’m fine.” Riku made his way to the paopu island, seeking the comfort of the paopu tree…his favorite relaxing spot on the whole island. On the sandy floor he spotted a necklace…Kairi’s. ‘How could that have possibly fallen off?’ thought Riku sarcastically, another pang of sadness stabbing at his heart. He let it remain on the ground as he jumped up to the curved tree, sighing and closing his eyes. ‘Wait…’ he thought as his eyes flew open again, turning to the branches of the tree. ‘One…two…no…’ he thought, shocked…Of the three paopu fruits that normally hung from the tree, only two were there. All hopes of rebuilding the three’s once innocent life were crushed. Riku was truly not needed anymore. Jumping off the tree, he sprinted down the bridge and jumped onto the sandy shore, running towards the cave entrance to the secret place. He then collapsed against the door, trying so hard to convince himself that there were still three paopus hanging from that tree. He then glanced to the side, only to see a completed sketch of Sora, Kairi…and a paupu. The emptiness in Riku’s core tore at him, pulling at his heart. ‘Is this what a broken heart feels like?’ thought Riku as the burning sensation returned to his eyes. He could not take it any longer. Picking up a nearby stone, he walked to a blank spot in the wall and began to carve, feeling the vibrations from the sheer force. Once completed, the stone fell to the floor, leaving Riku’s clenched fist and a single tear on the scrawled message: “I NEED MORE AFFECTION THAN YOU KNOW.” Unable to cope any longer with the growing feelings of loss, Riku’s mind turned to the only option he had. Leaning against the wall, he closed his eyes and let his fist fall open at his side. Feeling his loss, he allowed an eerie aura to surround him once again. As he began to fade into darkness, he fell to his knees. The deeper he fell, the less heartbreak he experienced. His surroundings began to gray and disappear, and his arms fell limply to his side. ‘Perhaps the darkness’ he thought, as his consciousness began to slip away, ‘will cover this void…end this pain.’ As he fell forward towards the ground, he barely noticed a pair of pale arms catching him and pulling him towards a small, slender body. “RIKU!” Namine screamed, shaking him as his pulse slowed. “YOU CAN’T LEAVE! NOT NOW!” She stifled a sob as she waited for his eyes to open…they didn’t. “No…no no no Riku…you can’t…” pulling him closer to her, she rested her forehead on his chest. “Don’t leave, Riku…I need more affection than you know…” `````````` ``~~*~~`` `````````````` |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | I was worried that I wouldn't be able to portray the mood very well...without the mood the ending would have seemed crazy x.X |
