“Good morning, Mr. Parker.” A voice rang out from behind Peter. Peter turned, to see a bald man in a wheel chair, slowly approaching him.
“Who are you?” Peter asked.
“I’m Charles Xavier. I’m the Principal of this school, so to speak.” Xavier said.
“So, you’re the one who sent me the summons?” Peter asked, holding up a slip of paper.
“Yes.” Xavier answered.
“Well, it was nice to meet you, Mr. Xavier.”
“Please, most of my students just call me Professor X.” Xavier smiled.
“That’s all well and good… but why? Why me?” Peter asked, a bit perplexed as to why Xavier had sent him the summons.
“We all have our gifts, Mr. Parker. But people like us…” Xavier began. Are a bit more ‘gifted’ than others. Xavier’s voice rang out in Peter’s mind.
“So… you know?” Peter asked.
“About the spider bite that changed your life forever? Yes. I do.” Xavier said.
“How?” Peter asked.
“I know all of my students, new and old, and their stories. I wouldn’t be much of a Principal if I didn’t.” Xavier smiled. “Well, off to class then. Wouldn’t want to be late on your first day.” Xavier said, as Peter nodded in agreement and approached the large doors to Xavier’s High School.
Peter took a gulp, and pushed the doors open, and walked inside, seeing just how many people in this world were as “gifted” as he and Xavier. There were millions within the halls of this school, walking about, talking, or going through their lockers, generally just going about their business.
Like all High Schools, Peter already felt he wasn’t going to fit in here.
“Hey, new kid!” A voice rang out from his left. Bingo. Peter thought to himself, as he turned.
The boy whom had addressed him had on a flannel jacket, with blue jeans on. He also had on a white muscle shirt on, and had jet black, spiked hair, which was spiked into a strange shape—it almost resembled horns.
“What do you want?” Peter asked, a bit of anger in his voice.
“Yeah, I haven’t seen you around before. Looks like we’ve got some fresh-meat.” The boy smiled, cracking his knuckles.
“Go ahead and try it!” Peter yelled, throwing down his bags, and taking an offensive stance.
“Oh, big words…” the boy said, putting his hands at his side. Suddenly, six (three in each hand) blades extended from the boys hands. He slashed at Peter a few times, ripping his jacket as he did. “So, new kid. What’s your ‘gift’ as Xavier would call them?” the boy asked.
“…” Peter smiled. He held out one hand. Curious, the other boy stared at his hand, in amazement. Suddenly, Peter folded his two middle fingers, and a cloud of white blurred the boy’s vision. The boy leapt back, screaming out as he tried to remove the “web” that Peter had just shot into his face.
The boy gritted his teeth, finally rid of the white web. He had various cuts from where his claws had slashed him in his frantic prying, which all began to seal, ever slowly. Peter stared in amazement.
The boy pulled back his arm, about to land a punishing blow to Peter, when something stopped him. Peter turned, to see Xavier, sitting there, a look of annoyance on his face.
“Logan, how many times do I have to do this?” Xavier asked.
The other boy, Logan, gave no response, as his claws retracted.
“That is no longer an ‘initiation.’ It’s cruel, and sometimes fatal to our new students.” Xavier said, a bit of anger stirred from within him.
“Sorry sir.” Logan groaned.
“Peter, if you’d please come with me. We need to discuss your scheduling.” Xavier said, turning his glance towards Peter, who nodded and followed.
