After trademarks and teases and rumors of naked grizzled men, Square Enix finally announces Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, with developer IO Interactive taking inspiration from documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era.

That last bit certainly explains the teaser video that McWhertor posted awhile back, featuring the two criminals running through a Chinese restaurant pursued by gunman and an attack dog, caught on what looks like a grainy surveillance camera. IO Interactive is looking to "deliver a fresh perspective to the words 'intensity' and 'realism' in video games," and if that teaser was less tease, more gameplay, then they might just be on to something.

"Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days," said Niels Jorgensen, general manager of IO Interactive. "A special thanks to gamers worldwide for their feedback. They are certainly in for a shock as we, with immense pride, welcome back our two dear, violent and somewhat unfortunate friends."

Dog Days will feature the world's most dysfunctional couple as they journey through the seedy Shanghai underworld. The original teaser vid plus the new one below are now up at Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - KaneAndLynch.com (http://www.kaneandlynch.com), with screenshots listed as coming soon. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is slated for a 2010 release on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 under the Eidos label.

The development studio working on Thief 4 and Deus Ex 3 has another major project on its hands, with Square Enix revealing that Eidos Montreal is hard at work on the company's first "global game."

The news came today during a keynote speech from Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada at the Montreal Games Summit, where he spoke about how the company is addressing global markets, Develop reports. The purchase of Eidos is apparently playing a big part in the Square Enix's plans, with the new title marking the first time separate businesses in the company's empire would be actively collaborating.

The new title "would be the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal," said Wada. "We would like to be able to create a new title that is made by the group as one."

Unfortunately there is little information available about this new title, and with how quiet Eidos Montreal has been about their other two high-profile titles, I doubt we'll be seeing leaks any time soon.

CEO reveals vision for games development at Quebec summit

Japan-headquartered Square Enix and its Canadian studio Eidos Montreal are collaborating on the firm's first truly global game, according to CEO Yoichi Wada.

Speaking at the Montreal Games Summit today, the publisher boss said that Eidos Montreal is working on a third title alongside Deus Ex 3 and Thief 4.

The game will be the first time business across the Square Enix holding group have collaborated on a project.

When Square Enix acquired Eidos in April this year, the Japanese firm took over ownership added a set of studios from the US and Europe to its local studios famous for games like Final Fantasy - but ultimately all were kept separate.

The new title "would be the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal," said Wada. "We would like to be able to create an new title that is made by the group as one."

The news came as part of a keynote talk looking at how Square Enix is addressing global markets. Yada talked at length about how the integration of Eidos into Square Enix has created a mix of studios that serve a variety of different audiences - and how there was no true 'global market'.

However he added that very few details about the newest Eidos Montreal project are fixed in place yet. It was not confirmed if the game is a new IP or a remake of an existing Square/Eidos property, akin to the the Deus Ex and Thief remakes in the works at the Montreal outfit.

Will this be a revival of Fortress? Or an entirely new IP?

This game was developed by PopCap (Bejewled) and Square-Enix to make a RPG with a puzzle combat system that ties in heavy RPG elements and lore. The art style is a more western approach (which I fucking love) and it ties in many addictive JRPG elements as well. Your monster cards level up and gain new abilities as they gain experience in battle, and you grow your repertoire of cards to adapt to different situations.

---Quote (Originally by Joystiq)---
A recent interview with Wired, PopCap co-founder and chief creative officer Jason Kapalka claimed that he jokingly brought up the idea of a Final Fantasy and Bejeweled hybrid during a meeting with Square Enix (who publishes many of PopCap's games in Japan). Squeenix's Yuichi Murasawa, designer of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, loved the idea, and set out to create such a title. Last week, Gyromancer, the fruit of these two parties' labor, was announced during the Tokyo Game Show."
---End Quote---
The story is about "Rivel, leader of the rebel faction Temperance and sorcerer vessel of the Godseye, follows Qraist, the countslayer, into the enchanted Aldemona Wood. The wood whispers to the two. For Rivel, the wood holds the key to his locked memories. For Qraist, the wood holds his calling -- to be its master. Unbeknownst to either, the nefarious Everett watches quietly from the shadows. Within this enchanted wood, severed from the outside world by ritual, lie mysteries and answers, knowledge and wonder. Each enters in search of something -- but what is it they will find?"

The game releases on November 18th, 2009 as a downloadable title for 360 and PC.

P.s.: Think of this game as Puzzle Quest, only with awesome art direction and isn't broken or buggy as fuck.
