My family is Catholic, and while I don't identify with Christianity anymore, I still enjoy the spirit of giving and togetherness. Plus, being Italians, my family usually makes an enormous seafood feast -- which is always nice.
I really enjoy Christmas music, when played tastefully -- none of the overplayed pop, but anything from Sinatra backwards (including Latin Christmas masses).
Well, the date of December 25 is taken from the Roman feast of Saturnalia; early Christians thought that it would help the religion's popularity, and it certainly did.
Whenever Celtis posts the thread becomes ten times more interesting. <3
What are some of y'all favourite Christmas songs? No linking now, we've all heard most Christmas songs. I simply love White Christmas by Bing Crosby. Anything with that old masked crispness, YES.

White Christmas I also love. Chestnuts roasting by an open fire, carol of the bells gets me hype, and Christmas time is here.

Like my favorite Christmas song ever. It's so good, I can listen to this song at anytime other than Christmas and not get that feeling I get whenever I put on sunscreen for anything other than going to the beach :P
Not too much of a spiritual Catholic, but it's not like it's gonna kill me to spend some time reflecting on the religious part of Christmas so I try to do that on the holiday, which usually ends up with me watching that Jesus channel for a while.

Oh yes I love this Christmas tunes!!!
also, Home Alone 1 and 2, and all the claymation Christmas films.

i don't celebrate christmas anymore. you people have turned it into a pagan holiday. god shall punish you all for your blasphemy against our lord and savior jesus christ. i urge you all to repent .
before i'm crucified that was all sarcasm
no really though christmas is to corrupted for my liking i prefer thanksgiving, but i cringe every time somebody gives me something and i am forced to accept it so they don't feel hurt

I have Trypophobia and now you do too. :) your welcome
Well I'm Muslim lmao so
But I like to take some time and reflect on the role of Jesus (pbuh) in my religion and drink A LOT of eggnog. I never really cared for Christmas until last year but now I get really into it. Especially because Canadian winters usually help with the mood. My family doesn't really celebrate it but I watch the TV specials and try to spread good-cheer and presents among people close to me, so.
This is so true,
I'm all into enjoying time with my immediate family and best friends. I can't get over the idea that your going to give me x amount of things only because it's expected to. I feel that for some people gift giving is obligatory thing. It's nice and all - but I don't feel like it came from the heart. Surprise me on an unexpected day and that's how I'll know you meant it and I'll feel extra appreciative because of that.
What I really love about Christmas though it's the spirit, the home decor and the delicious food. Along with the extra 10 pounds I gain every holiday season with it too (sarcasm). I love decorating my house with lights, trees, spheres and all. It's so challenging because I try to make my house look like the Christmas trees displayed at Macy's stores (lol) I literally watch like Martha Stewart tutorials and getting all crafty. I love the idea how you can make a beautiful scenery out of sashes and lights. Same thing while being glued to the Food Network Channel and learning new delicious recipes. I probably know how to make 25 variations of turkey till the day (It's a must during the holiday season) and pies and egg nogs and candies and all of that stuff.
As far a the religious side goes -
I'm not religious per say but I always make sure I go to Mass on Christmas Eve. If I can't go to church all year long (therefore if my Sundays are busy or I'm just making an excuse to not get out of bed.) That is the ONE time out of the whole year where I know I wouldn't be able to sacrifice two hours of my life to get out of bed and be thankful. Everytime I walk into the Catholic Cathedral or in an LDS Ward, I can feel the spirit, get goosebumps on my arm, start crying for no reason. Being grateful, I have no idea what it is. I don't really think much about religious stuff all year long. But as soon as I walk in, I start thinking about everything that had happened that year and now matter how good or bad that year was, I'm like "wow I made it, and I couldn't have done it all alone."
Oh and other thing,
I hate Christmas sweater and clothes that scream out dress like an old lady. BUT I LOVE winter fashion, sorry I just thought I had to scream that out. Pea-coats, boots, scarfs, knit style hats and earmuffs. That's just a plus.

Idk. Christmas was never about the gifts for me. It might have been when I was a child (still remember receiving Pokemon Gold over 12 years ago on Christmas day lol) but not anymore. I'm lucky to get gifts from my parents lol.
But yeah, I love Christmas because of the overall emotions it tends to evoke. Everyone is so cheery, and I get to spend time with the family. Plus, my mom makes food just for the holiday season so I make sure to take advantage of that.
I'm not really religious though so it's not like I go to church or anything. We set up this little baby Jesus thingy with the barn and stuff underneath our Christmas tree.
Christmas is something I celebrate with my Christian values in mind. But anything involving church I do before it actually is Christmas. Christmas day I just spend with my family. And then when it comes to that, I don't really care about anything other then the meal.
With gifts, I admittedly will get spoiled and get whatever it is I've asked for from my family. And even though I will be excited for that epic loot, I do always feel a hinge of guilt since I'm not capable to return the favor on the same scale. While my dad will go out and get me something like a new console, I'm only able to get him something like a CD or movie since at most I'll have maybe $100 and have to buy presents for around 10 people. I know it's the thought that counts, and all the people who get me nice stuff probably wouldn't even care if I got them nothing, but it still bothers me. Sometimes I'm reluctant to even use the stuff I get because I feel I don't deserve them.
I usually visit my friends place on Christmas since I can't afford to travel across the country to see my mom. So his family and him are by extension my christmas-family.
i'm atheist but w/e i like spending time with people. B)

While that's the case, I'm not talking about the fuss about the date or the pagan origins of a festival; I was referring to if, as a Christian, he was ignoring the story in the gospels for some reason.
My favorite Christmas songs are O Holy Night and O Come Emmanuel, particularly interesting, modern renditions of these old hymns.
