Default How has KHI or the internet in general changed/helped you?

This is a comic about SOPA that got me thinking about how much the internet affects all of us.

What if SOPA was passed? - A comic - Imgur

This really made think about how much I've changed due to the internet. My internet access is restricted to almost only KHI and Facebook, but I can still see many changes in my life due to this internet of ours, and more specifically for me, KHI. This thread is for sharing how the internet has changed or helped you as a person.

For me, the internet has helped me to become much thicker skinned and to just live my life without letting everybody else ruin it for me. I can keep my head in an argument no matter how angry I feel, and I used to have a horrible temper. Really, without KHI, I wouldn't be able to be happy right now due to the junk that people try to put in my life.

Additionally, I'm not talking about google, filesharing, etc. but how the net has affected you as a person. And this is not a help and support thread, only talking about how you have been changed or helped already.

I swear, that comic almost made me cry. I can see myself doing exactly what he did at the end.

But in all seriousness, I'd guess that this place helped to teach me how to be a bit more outgoing. I used to hate interacting with other people. And for the longest time I never really paid any attention to the fact that people on here are real. But once I faced that fact I started to get out a bit more and talk to people around me. It's actually helped me to forge relationships with individuals much like myself and experience things that I had yet to do.

I'm not even sure how to begin. I would say joining KHI what's changed me the most.

It showed me a few sides myself that I didn't know existed. That I could be silly and laid back more. Having the ability to talk to people about my favorite video game. Sharing our experiences and interests. If it weren't for khinsider I wouldn't be able to participate in this paticular fandom. With it, khinsider broaden my horizions, showing me there was more to the Internet than I knew. I wouldn't know nearly as much as I do now, if I think back to the old days when I barely knew how to use the internet. Cause I didn't see a use for it at the time. Like I wouldn't even know when the next kingdom hearts game would come out until I saw it in a comercial. And now thanks to khinsider, I would know a lot sooner xD

    It's this image huh?

If anything, the internet has allowed me to participate within my various fandoms (Batman, One Piece, etc) something that I'd never be able to do in real life.

It's also exposed me to several musical genres and artists that I would have probably never have been introduced to otherwise.

That middle monologue is so true. What is the "internet"? A place where we can be ourselves without the masks of society and "normality".

Wow, imagining myself not ever going on the internet when I was 8...
I would have been a very different person.

The internet helped me discover anime properly and my love for Japanese music, which 6 years on is still strong. Gosh, without the internet, I probably would have quit drawing because I would have never watched anime. The internet probably helped in the development of my now weird personality...which I'm not sure if I'm thankful for lol.
    Without the internet...;A;

You know, I could just go on and on. The internet has done so much for me, from making me more educated on certain topics and also an open minded person in a lot more things. I guess you could say it changed my opinions and the way I live too...:O

I've learned a lot of information on the internet, and I have made tons of friends and became part of several communities. All in all, the internet is fantastic. I can't believe that I didn't have it until 2009 D:

There are a lot of things I am grateful for from KHI and the internet as a whole. I've met some amazing people and learned about other's viewpoints and opinions, and I learned how much more there is to the world than I can ever see, I've improved my drawing and writing abilities and become a little more social. I even started roleplaying, fanart, and fanfiction because of what I saw online.

But TVTropes has ruined my life. o3o

I can confidently say that KHI and the internet as a whole have been the biggest defining factors in shaping who I am for the last several years.

When I joined KHI like 5 years ago, I was very socially awkward, lonely, depressed, and had very little confidence. Being on the internet and interacting with the people there taught me that people were generally pleasant and kind to you regardless of how you personally felt about yourself, and that generally speaking there's no reason to have such a negative view of yourself. I'm also brazilian, so talking to europeans and americans really changed my cultural views and political and social opinions. All the people I can call close friends I met through here or on the internet in general, at this point i'm so westernized that fraternizing with brazilians is a little hard for me.

God, that comic got me depressed, just the idea of the internet not existing. diddly, if that ever really happened, I'd cry. :'(

It's played a huge part in my life. It's really helped define who I am, especially here on KHI. I've made so many friends online. I'm a pretty socially awkward person, but the internet has really helped me fix that a lot. I speak out now, instead of holding back, afraid of what others think. Now I don't give a flying diddly about someone thinking negatively about me because I disagree with them. And I've learned that a lot of other people don't care about this either, and even if we disagree about things, we can still be friends. It's actually fun, to get into an argument that is blow totally out of proportion.

If the internet never existed, I'd probably have a totally different, unenjoyable, life.

Looking back at some of these posts, I think we should stop calling this place Kingdom Hearts Insider. Instead, call it something like Shy People Reform School.

Seriously, did everyone on here start out shy?

khi forced me out of my sheltered life and gave me a personality.

it also gave me confidence in myself and just as quickly took it away. i learned the value of things.

i've probably done most of my growing up on this stupid forum.

and met the most important and amazing people that i could've never met without it.
