    Default Ideal Job Situations...

Basically, if you had to choose...

Would you have the job that...

    A) Has high pay
    B) You love to do

I'm not going to add "and you hate it, or and has low pay" but I'm curious as to which is more important to you guys... Let me know to what extent :D

To me, work is work. If a person is lucky and ambitious enough to get into doing what they love, then that's terrific. But to me, there's a time to be happy, and that's when you're not at work. I'm more concerned with making money.

I think it was between loving my job or earning lots of money for a job I do not love I would choose the job I love. If I did not enjoy the job, then I would end up unmotivated and when I am unmotivated I do not do very well. So, it would be kind of pointless for me to do a job I hate even if it does earn lots of money because I would probably end up fired. Loving what I do is very important to me. I am ok as long as I make enough money to live on.

Money helps pave the way to happiness. Getting paid a lot to do something you love would be great, but that won't happen for a lot of people. So long as I had the means to do whatever I like to do outside of work I'd be fine with whatever job I have, even if I didn't love it.

Money means kupoing nothing (well, it might mean something to your family if you're slaving away to provide for their luxury) if you're at work all the time with no means to enjoy it, especially if your work isn't something you enjoy either.

Plus, if you're really good at something, chances are you'll like it. If you like something and are really good at it, you have the potential to make good money at whatever you do.

What good is a $250k a year salary if you see your family one weekend out of the month, work long days and nights traveling, have a shitty boss, and are never home? It'll buy you some nice prostitutes and an iPad I guess.

    Word.

I'm glad to see that the majority of the people on here would rather be doing something that they enjoy, are good at, or are passionate about doing. It would maybe be close to an ideal world if everyone could have their income occupation be something that they: are good at, enjoy doing, and have a sincere interest in; passion, etc. In addition to what Dogenzaka said, if you have something that you are affluent at, or can strive at, you would want to expand upon those talents and abilities. Put them to use, get better, become versatile, do what comes naturally, and sometimes things in life that you may need might come naturally. I could really expand upon this further, as I'm sure many others could as well.

I suppose I'd rather do something I enjoy. For eg. I've been struggling with what career path I'd like to take (in my country, the system is set up in such a way that-in a sense-I have to choose my general direction in a year or so) and while I could become a doctor and make oodles of cash, I'd rather study something I love like physics (although the salary there would still be good).

Being pretty poor, I dream of a life where I could easily pay my bills and not have to live paycheque to paycheque. But I think having a job you enjoy is extremely important and that's what I always aim for. Currently I'm working a minimum wage position, but I really enjoy it and that makes me happy to be there almost all of the time.

I'd rather have a job where I get paid a lot. It's not that I value money over happiness, because I don't. But I want to make enough to support myself and later my family. I want o be self-sufficient and earn enough to be able to live on my own, so I'm not scraping by or dependent on a spouse or someone else.

And, a bigger part of this is that I don't want what I love to become a chore. I do what I like to do at my own pace, because it's a hobby and I do it to relax and unwind, and to feel happy. If that became a job, if I got a deadline, if I had to work to, instead of doing what I like how I like to do it, do it to match how my boss says I have to do it, then I wouldn't be happy. Of course, I wouldn't get a job I despise, but I would rather have the high paying salary and do what I enjoy when I enjoy doing it, how I enjoy doing it, as a hobby. That obviously doesn't apply to everything, and it may seem like a weird view, but it's how I see it. For now, at least. :/

Word. 40 hrs a week of something I don't necessarily love is doable. It gives you something to look forward to once you're done with work for the day or the weekend. If I had to choose between an amazing salary with a job I absolutely detest, then I'd go with the other option. But, there's a reason why work is considered the opposite of play. It doesn't mean they can't mix, but how happy can you be if you don't have financial peace of mind?

Something I'd love to do. Currently I do 9 bucks an hour, 19 hours a week at a design job, and it's so damn fulfilling. I put in well over 19 hours a week and i'm perfectly okay with that.

edit: currently i'm just a page designer for my schools newspaper, but next year i'll be editor in chief. so i'll get no extra pay for well over double the work. -shrug- i love doing it, so what do i give

I'm an emotional person so it'd have to be something I love. Money is nice, but if I'm not happy, it's pointless. In fact, I have close relatives who are perfect examples of this, and I love them, but I don't want to end up like that. Granted, they hate their jobs. If it were a job I semi-liked, maybe it wouldn't be too bad, but I'd still prefer to do something I love.

The idea is that you build up enough money to undertake a part-time degree at university so that you can do what you really love. Makes sense to me, at least.
