Rep Power: 1 ![]() Level: EXP: | Biblical allusions are very common in literature, and therefor, I can imagine that they would be common in comic books as well. I haven't read any of the Superman comics, so I can't say for sure if I think he is a Jesus figure or not. What I am inferring from the posts that I have read is that some of you believe that Superman can't be a Jesus figure because he doesn't follow the exact storyline of the Bible. My answer to this is that a character in a story does not have to parallel the life of Jesus exactly to be labeled a Jesus figure. A perfect example of this would be Tom from Uncle Tom's Cabin or Santiago from The Old Man and the Sea, both of whom are considered Jesus figures and neither of them are crucified. |

The comparisons between Superman and Jesus are there and are very much a part of the character nowadays but, originally, it wasn't done on purpose. | |
