Psychic Abilities

I'm curious, so I'm gonna make a discussion thread on this. :D If you don't like/don't believe in psychic stuff, feel free to post, JUST AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT BASHING. Hearing different views is nifty, but bashing isn't any good. I understand if you don't like it, but you have no reason to bash it...

Okay, so, what's your opinion on psychic abilities? I seriously believe they exist, but only you can see them for yourself. You might have to practice hard to be able to move a simple piece of paper with your mind, but it just sounds neat and exciting that it'll be worth it! I'm going to learn telekinesis and electrokinesis, not sure which one I'm starting with, though; electrokinesis is because it's kinda like a superpower and most of my characters have some sort of electric power because that's one of my favourite powers!

So, whatcha think? There's a bunch of other stuff, too. Astral projection, lucid dreaming, and all of the kinesis abilities are what I can think of right this second...

The idea that you can learn to control these abilities is rather ludicrous. If these abilities do exist [I think that they do] then they would be used during incredibly stressful situations, probably involving the use of epinephrin in some unused portion of the brain. And even then it would probably limited to pure life or death situations, probably requiring the use of everything that your body has.

Of course, there are those things that seem to be simple occurences. For instance, I was riding my bike one day when I suddenly saw that I would be hit by a car if I kept going. As I stopped, a car went screeching out of the parking lot that I was about to pass in front of. Sounds like it's nothing special, but bear in mind that I was humming to myself while riding my bike at eleven years old, and that I had no view of the parking lot. As I watched the car go by, I saw that I had the body shape and the color of the car correct in my little precognitive experience.

That could of course be the result of random occurences or stimuli affecting my brain, but consider the family members that just know that something bad has happened to someone else; even someone that they are miles away from and haven't talked to for a day or so. Happens quite often, particularly in my family. I'm sure that we're not the only ones, but I don't really talk to people about this.

So I suggest not trying to learn these things, as they are probably a waste of time, at least before you can control your epinephrin levels by fooling your body. Good luck with that.

I do not believe it's possible, at least not in the sense that you are referring too. As a Christian, I believe that God has the power to reveal things to people (which could be mistaken for psychic ability), and I also believe that Satan/demons can also possess humans in order to create the effect (i.e. Channeling, which I'm not sure is considered "psychic" or not, but very dangerous nonetheless).

I believe that it is entirely impossible for a human to train in order to acquire psychic powers. There are those that will say that it is all about tapping in to the 90% (approximately) of our brain that we don't use, but that is mere speculation, and if we did manage to tap into that 90%, the high brain activity would cause tumors (or so I've been told).

Right, I knew it was partly made up of pyro. Wasn't sure about the other part.

But I myself do not believe it is possible for the human mind to have such abilities. However, according to the Mayans, in the year 2012, the universe will enter the fifth dimension. The most common idea is that the fifth dimension involves thought. So maybe it might be possible then?

Though, if someone were to show me UNDENIABLE PROOF, I would so train to have pyrokenesis. The world will burn under my undying flames!

Nope, that is just noting the tendencies of a person and comparing them to the stereotype in your head.

I believe in the psychic abilites that consist of seeing things that have not yet happened, knowing where unrelated things are, sensing ghosts or spirits and sensing the good or bad in people. I personally (not to boast or say Im magic or god or shit) have a good ability to sense people and their true self-ex: my uncle dated this woman (that my whole family liked and approved of) for nine years; I knew from the first time I met her that I didnt like her and there was something wrong with her, and I voiced my opinions to my family but they didnt agree. Recently hes been suffering from life threatening health problems, and we discovered she hasnt been so worried about his heath but more worried in trying to secure his assests away from his children and parents. THEN my family believed me when I told them she was bad! Another story-I also purchased this framed pirate map from a yard sale and I really wanted to know what was behind it. I knew there was something behind the map; when I opened up the frame, there were a whole bunch of old family photos hidden behind the map.

there are more things but I dont want to go on. Im sure that stuff sounds like coincidence, but coincidence only happens every once in a while. I do believe that people can have instincts like that and they do exist. However, I dont think we (as the current humans we are) can do the telepathic and telekinetc stuff. though I think its way cool and Id love to go all Mewtwo on someone's ass!! LOL

coincidence is two unrelated and random things occurring in a way that seems related. emphasis on "random." therefor, they happen randomly, and possibly very often.

I'd love to master some of these powers if they actually existed. Frankly, some of the concepts kinda make sense, but other are rather confusing.

If these were TOTALLY true, the first one I'd go for is the one (if there is one, what would the name be?) where you could move water wiht your mind.

Some of these powers are about as ridiculous as the ones in the spells and magic thread.
