Okay I need this cleared up.... what do people consider the end of the world? My idea of the end of the world is the end of a lot of human lives on earth (like most >.> lol). i remember watching something on how "scientifically" the world is supposed to end. the sun is supposed to grow really big, disinigrating most of the planets, and since the Earth is the third closest planet to the Sun, its very possible we will be destroyed. the Sun is supposedly to turn into a white dwarf at a certain point.

i think itll end when humans cease to exist as well, but due to natural causes, like that show Six Degrees on Discovery Channel..

Actually, I was reading that the Earth will not actually be swallowed up by the Sun. Since in becoming a red giant, our Sun will lose 30% of its mass, it'll have weaker gravity, so though the Sun will expand, it won't actually gobble us up. Granted, the heat will be enough to evaporate our oceans and end all life as we know it, but at least the rock will survive a bit longer =/

How many millions of miles will the sun expand, and how far away will the earth move?

If we're lucky, not all of the oceans will evaporate.
