Anyone compose?

Yay! A music thread!
So...

I started composing a couple months ago on piano when my friend Alison wrote an awesome piece and I wanted to try it too. I love it, except for when I want to play and I can't remember parts. >.<

I've found that it's easy if you know your scales and keys and just play around with them. Have fun with it and all that good stuff.

I just started writing my own stuff not too long ago. I've had 5-6 years of playing experience, but writing is a lot harder than you'd think. I have a few compositions for bass and am working on parts for the guitar at the moment.

I've written 3 songs. I've given them melodies and everything. It's just...I can't play Keyboard that well.

Well i dont compose but my brother is the musical one in our family. He can quickly write songs but composing the music for it i think is the problem mainly cause they got 3 idiots trying to figure out the perfect guitar, bass, and drum combinations.

yeah, that's probably the only thing that keeps people from composing more often.
I guess you'd have to be at the level where you know everything about your instrument forwards and backwards and upside-down, lol.

I have written, rewritten, completely rethought, and orchestrated the same song for the past 5 years.

It's called "Good Ship Insanity" and I'm nowhere near done.

I have been thinking about starting this a few times. I've tried thinking of a few melodies and making songs out of them, but without any notable success. Most melodies I try to come up with resemble other melodies out there too much (meaning they sound like an attempt to remix an already existing song) for me to consider them truly original. So I've given up on it... for now at least.

So I wonder... how difficult is it really? To me, it seems ridiculously difficult to come up with something original, but maybe this is just me.

I'm working on a marching band demo for my Cadet Squadron.

Being "Cyclone" squadron, I'm making it fairly windy and jazz-like. I'll post it when it's finished.

I put together some piano/keyboard parts to larger songs composed by my more musically-talented cohorts. Then I got lazy and worked with a friend to program a music generator, which puts out simple tunes to the emotional cues of "happy" or "sad" (it was an ongoing project, to be expanded upon later).

I compose piano songs :3 Sometimes with vocals, but my voice isn't too hot and I'm not very good with lyrics.
I also create and play keyboard parts for the band I'm in.

I'm hoping to study percussion and more instruments to get a more orchestral feel.

I've written a bunch of stuff since... umm... the day before the Goblet of Fire movie came out. :[ I don't remember how long ago that was, though. I compose stuff for my fanfiction ['cause i'm weird xD;] that's mostly sheet music 'n stuff and I'm trying to do electronic stuff for my original story... And most of the sheet music I've written isn't even finished and I have only about 5 pieces actually complete. 8D; YAYYYYY.

And now I wish I had my violin so I could actually play my music... *headdesk*

Hmmm...I didn't really compose but used my ears to play other songs that I didn't know, I've composed one song before, it wasn't that good...it was for keyboard, I might make some more!
