Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() | First off, I don't know if a topic about superstition needs to be in the religous forum, so I just put it here in the general discussion. Feel free to move it if necesary. Well, I am not religous, and I don't really believe in superstition, by which I mean like bad luck because of a broken mirror or things like that. What I do wonder about sometimes, are signs. Signs by God, or fate, I don't know. Just simple things in life that give direction, hardly noticable. Like for example yesterday I sat in the bus on my way home, and there was a girl next to me. She was pretty, but I didn't really dared to go talk to her. And after she left the bus and I got home some things happened. Just simple things that made me feel guilty that I didn't talk to her. Sentences on an add that stood out, words that people said that caught my attention, which didn't had to do with me, but it felt like they were. Hmm, I can't really explain it well, haha, but it was like something was mad at me for not doing what I thought I should simply because I was a bit scared. Or like a sound or scent, that makes you remember something you just needed to know again. A thing you needed or an emotion you felt. Now if signs from fate or God exist, I don't really know. Maybe they are just illusions. I myself do believe in them, although I don't know where they come from. I believe that there are some signs that give direction to your life, or help you with remembering something, or with a problem you're dealing with. Also, sometimes I hear people say that you shouldn't pay attention to such signs and things because you never know if you have the right interpretation. But I believe that signs are only for the person they are shown to, and that is because he is the only one who can interpret the sign correctly, as it should be understood. So I think you should never doubt your interpretation, and should really pay attention to them. They are quite fun sometimes. =P Well, I think that's about it. What are you thoughts about this? Do you believe in them, or not? And have you ever experienced something like this? Burst loose. xD Last edited by Cicero; 04/18/08 at 07:02 AM. |

| Orville Redenbacher WOO | Well, there are times when I feel I regret not doing something later. My friend wanted me to do the school play. I refused. But after the tryouts for the play, I saw the movie for the said play was on TV the night after tryouts ended. I also went to the play and found out it was so much fun. I'm not really sure as to classify these experiences as superstition, a plan of God, fate, or anything at all. Quite frankly, I don't really knwo how to explain it. Maybe just a phenomena of sorts? |

| In Germany, Cats Say "Miau" | Dude... I know exactly what you're talking about. Ever since 08 cam around, I've been really superstitious. Especially when it comes to numbers. This is b/c about a month or two ago, I was riding the bus. And I started noticing the numbers on ppl's mailboxes. This was already weird, cuz I looked at the same numbers later and found I couldn't see them. Or at least not clearly enough to distinguish what they were. Anyway, I started adding and multiplying the numbers in my head. And I'm not sure why I randomly felt the need to add them (I wasn't all number crazy at this point in time). Another weird thing, one of the numbers I used was a "100" that some kid made from the frost on the windows. So the crazy thing was I came up with the number "33". And guess what was on the sign I saw next? Now I'm freaking out at this point, and I think about it harder. And, this is actually weirder then it first sounds, I was wrong. My counting was off by like 4 numbers. It's confusing, but I think my caculations being wrong and still seeing that number, was weirder then the whole experiance. So l8ly I've been number crazy (watching "The Number 23" didn't help much). I can't look at a digital clock now without caculating the numbers on it. I actually got smitten with a girl, mostly b/c she had "14" on her locker (but that's another story). And I've been getting into this weird mind-set where I'm positive there's, as you've said, something guiding my actions. Creepy, eh? |

| we can't stop here | It's mostly because of my OCD [clinically, I'm not just saying that], but I also exhibit most of this. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() | @FrozenFate: Yes, maybe it is just a phenomena of sorts, I don't know either, but it gets pretty weird sometimes. Yesterday too, I went to a nightclub with some friends, but I wasnt really in the mood. And all the time these people kept bumping in to me, so frankly I was f*cked up a bit. xD But then, right after the moment I was really considering just hitting someone just to lose my agression, I heard one sentence of the song that was playing. 'Let's keep it friendly'. I hadn't listened to the whole song, but that sentence just caught my attention somehow. @Ningacom: Haha, that was not really what I meant, but it is a sign off sorts I think. I've never experienced something like that, but it sounds kind off... cool, haha. xD @Morningstar: Sorry for being dumb, but what is OCD? |

| loudQUIETloud. | Yesterday, around midnight, me and my friend were walking through the park. We came upon 4 church collection plates. I was like "cool lets take em home", but he was freaking out telling me not to touch them because they shouldn't be out of the church and they were holy and bad luck if you touch em. Neither of us touch em. Anyways, walking home, he trips 5 times and gets yelled at by his mom. I just laugh. |

Ever since I saw that movie over a year ago, I see 23 just about everywhere. (maybe I'm looking for it =P). Every time I see one I get really frustrated because I'm getting a little annoyed at finding it everywhere. Also, quite few years back, I somehow cracked my sister's mirror. Until only recently have I stopped bumping into things. Really, I don't know if it lasted seven years, but it definitely started happening after I broke the mirror. Its been about a year and a half since I noticed it stopped. other than that, I try not to pay attention to superstitions. Though my friend at school warns me that I'll get dirt poisoning and die every time I eat something off the ground (I'll admit that it's a little gross)

| In Germany, Cats Say "Miau" | ha, I do the same thing when I see "1:23" or "6:23" on a digital clock. And the whole 23 thing worries me (still debating whether he'll still be alive 2013) |

I need to look at a clock about eight times before it registers. And then I need to check again several times to make sure I was right.
