Blood donating

I just donated blood today. And this got me thinking. Your blood type must have something to do with how often you are asked to donate.

Anybody else ever donate blood? and if you are, how often are you asked? I'm O positive, the type that is compatible with everyone, and it seems like that everytime I'm able to donate again, they are calling me up!

Heh, my dad is O. Those guys at the blood clinic are freaking vampires man. THEY WILL SUCK YOU DRY if you have the right blood type. Once dad can donate again, they're calling once everyday in an attempt to make him come back to donate for more... Which to me, contradicts the concept of 'donating'.

And I've been considering giving blood. I'm old enough to do it now, so why not?

Well, it does save lives, but if you aren't just right, you'll get turned away. They are very picky about their blood. And they put you through a very long Q&A session to find out if you are what they are looking for.

I would donate blood, but two probs;

1) I'm not old enough
2) I haaaate needles.

I would gladly give if it was to help somebody else. We've had two blood drives at my school to help a cancer kid. Nice of a bunch of students that don't even know him would do something to help another. I don't know what my blood type is, but I wouldn't mind finding out.

If donating blood is anything like donating plasma, which I do, then I doubt your type has to do with how often you can donate.

Yeah my dad is O positive, but he doesnt give blood a whole lot.

Me? Well i dont even know what the hell i am. My mom says i'm A+ but my Dad's like "NOOOO shes O+!!!!" So yeah no clue here.

But O+ is very useful as you've stated, they'll suck ya dry. ;D

Me and my Dad blood type is O negative. They say that we have rare blood type and that our blood is only sometimes needed. I wouldnt mind giving blood but Im not old enough. My mom is A positive.

It isn't just plasma. It's Red blood cells, platelets, and anything else that might be in it, straight from the vein.

Apparently, Blood type has to do with molecules on the of surface red blood cells. There are two typs of molecules found there. type A and type B. If a person with type A cells were given blood with type B, their blood could potentially clot and block arteries. O types don't have either cells, so they are supposed to be okay for anyone to use.

I'm A something and I keep on TRYING. I went a few days after I was old enough to donate. But I seem to be pretty much anemic so I can't. I want to though.

People who are O or O+ they seem to bug the most. Believe me I know I'm O+. They will call you and send letters to your house reminding you to donate. It's because I can't remember and pardon me if I get this wrong I'm running on like 2 hours of sleep for the last past 3 days. It's O+ (?) that can go into anyone. SO they like that can of blood more since they don't have to worry about matching it to the people needing the blood.

I actually don't know what blood type I am But I'm definetely thinking about donating my blood sometime Why not? I hate needles though...

I think I'm B something. I'm not allowed to give blood though, there's a minimum weight limit on it and I'm just below it. DX

I dont care about donating my blood. I am not scared of needles cause i had like hundred of them in my arm when i was a kid and had an asthma attack. Not sure what kind of blood type i have either. My dad is O+ and American Red Cross calls alot. O+ gets called alot not just because its capable with everyone but its also a rare bloodtype.
