This isn't all that bad, a simple look is never bad, and you pulled it off here, just one thing that bugs me is the color you chose for the circle, a lighter shade of color would of sufficed.

The stock needs more contrast and I don't really like the borders

Make the stock smaller or the canvas larger.
You've got a good idea, but you kind of what to expand and make it a bit more vivid.

Add to the foreground some more. Its ok to overlap the stock just a little, long as we can still see it, eyes go there first, and it doesn't stray from the general flow.
