(Original Story) World of Silence

They sat in silence staring deeply into each other’s eyes. Nathan pushed the hair from her face. Elle looked so beautiful in the pale moonlight. I remember the first time I saw her, he thought to himself, at the store. He laughed quietly to himself. It felt almost dream-like, like being in a movie. She was buying a frozen pizza… she was so beautiful…She went to my school… She went to my school! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize her! Her long brown hair, her deep green eyes, and that golden personality, I'm surprised I didn’t notice her before. He sighed.
The soft breeze caressed their faces. She began to shiver and rubbed her arms to generate the warmth. He jumped up and took off his jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. She smiled. How did I end up like this, she thought, still smiling at him, with the perfect guy? Who would’ve thought that me, Elle White would end up with Nathan Gray?
Nathan stood up and motioned for her to follow him. She stood up and they walked down the pathway into the park. She looked around; everything was so green and vivid with color and life. She looked like a kid in a candy store, amazed at the beautiful surroundings.
He led her to the swings and they each sat down in one.
Elle kicked herself away from the ground and began to swing. He laughed and joined her. She looked at him and began to laugh as well. They went on like this for several minutes.
Nathan noticed an older couple pass by and smile at them.
“We look like little kids,” He exclaimed through his chuckles, “want to jump?”
“Count of three?” Elle asked a bigger smile forming on her face.
“Always.”
“One…”
“Two…”
“Three!” They exclaimed at the same time and jumped out of the swing. They both landed on their knees, laughing.
Nathan stood up and helped Elle to her feet. He brushed himself off and grabbed Elle’s hand and pulled her alongside him. Once again Elle found herself upon the path. As they were walking he saw a flower on the ground and picked it up as gently as he could. He turned around and held the flower out to her,
"For you", he motioned. She took it slowly and almost immediately she became a deep red.
“Thanks,” she said smiling.
He just smiled and they began down the path again.
They finally came to a gazebo in what seemed to be the center of the park. The moonlight shone through a small aperture on the ceiling of the structure. They both sat down and she once again smiled at him. Elle loved the way he was always so warm, her source of heat. She pulled the jacket around herself and inhaled the scent. He always smelled so remarkable, she thought.
As they were sitting there something flew by them. Nathan quickly stood up and began to chase it. It flew in circles and was causing Nathan to stumble over the tree’s roots.
Elle giggled as she watched him try to catch the firefly. It was the most ungraceful thing she had ever seen but she thought it was really cute. She couldn’t contain her laughter. Was it because of him or his antics? She wondered. She shrugged her shoulders and watched wistfully.
Nathan ran around witlessly trying to seize the firefly in his hands. He finally gave up and fell to the ground from exhaustion. With each staggered breath his chest moved up then descended to its normal contour. He turned his head toward her and looked at her emerald green eyes. They were like two perfectly carved gems piercing his soul, in a good way. He tapped the ground next to him, signaling for her to come.
She bound from her seat and dashed towards him. She stopped and knelt besides him and saw that his eyes were shut. She gently placed her hand on his cheek.
Nathan slowly opened his eyes and grabbed her hand before she could move it. He chuckled and patted the earth beside him.
She lay down adjacent to him and gazed at the stars.
“It’s beautiful”, She whispered, “Don’t you think?”
He looked her in the eyes and silently replied, “Almost as beautiful as you”
All the thoughts and butterflies racing through her head were enough to make her smile and giggle. I think that maybe…she thought to herself, no, not yet… could he? She asked herself this question multiple times that night. Am I in love, is he… in love.
As the night progressed it became colder. All was quiet around them. All the animals had gone to sleep as well as the civilians in the houses that surrounded the park.
She wrapped his jacket around herself as she began to shiver.
“Are you cold?” he asked softly, “I can give you my shirt if you want…” He began to remove his shirt.
“No!” She exclaimed, her face gradually increasing in color, “No, its fine, I don’t want you to be cold.”-She hesitated letting out a big sigh-“I'm fine, you shouldn’t freeze to death because of me”.
He looked at her trying to analyze every thought in her mind.
“What?” she requested softly.
He rose up and held out his hand to her. Its time I got this over with, he thought, I should not have waited this whole time. His thoughts pained him greatly but he had to do it now or he wouldn’t ever be able to.
She took his hand and he pulled her up. She looked at him inquisitively and waited for him to speak.
“Follow me”, he said silently.
She did not like the tone of his voice, so cheerless and filled with suffering. She grasped hold of his hand in hopes of cheering him up.
They commenced their stroll through the park again. This time the journey through the park wasn’t as long but it still allowed her to view the beauty that surrounded her. They arrived at a colossal oak tree.
They stopped walking and he turned to look at her. His gaze, filled with sorrow and grief sent shivers down her spine.
“What… wrong?” she asked hesitantly. Her mind was conjuring up every possible situation to why he could be this morose. A death in the family, the loss of a job, she thought carefully, and then it hit her. Like a car ramming her straight into a brick wall. “You’re… breaking up with…me”.
These words weren’t to be set free from the inner confines of her mind. She looked up at him to view his response, still indifferent. Maybe its not that bad, she thought, maybe, I’m just over analyzing things. He can’t just break up with me out of the blue. He can’t…but he can. Her eyes began to widen and she could no longer contain the tears in her eyes.
He slowly walked up to her and embraced her lovingly. He placed his lips on her head and listened silently to her broken sobs. This makes it ten times harder, he thought. He let out a heavy sigh.
The world was null to them. Silence filled the air around them, silence and pain, deep jolting pain…

She listened, past her sobbing, past the sound of the leaves rustling to the gentle beat of his heart. She kept her head pressed firmly against his chest, why can’t we stay like this? she thought to herself. “Is this the end of… us?” she asked softly through her sobs.
He lifted his head from hers and looked her in her, now red eyes. He searched his mind for the right words. He didn’t want to bring more pain to her already broken heart. He looked at her and as he watched the replay of her reaction in his mind his heart began to break as well. He closed his eyes and small crystalline tears began to slide out from under his eyelids.
“Just to get things straight”, he replied, “ You mean the world to me-”
“Then why are you doing this?” She asked hurriedly before he could say anymore.
“Well”, -he paused-“You know how the war is going on and how they need all the help they can get…”-another pause-“I’ve decided to join”. He kept his gaze on her face the whole time. Now he awaited her reaction.
She dropped her eyes to the ground and felt her heart fall. She had never felt like this before. Even when her dog, Sparxx died she hadn’t felt such a pain in her heart. It was like he was ripping her chest open and stabbing her frail unprotected heart. Nothing could have protected her for this. She loved him and now she knew his feelings, Apathy.
He lifted her face and saw the small tears rolling down slowly. He wondered how he looked to her. He placed his hands on her shoulders and began to speak. “I don’t want you to think that I don’t…”he took a deep breath, “love you. But, I need to do this, I don’t know why but its… something I felt…. Inclined to do.”
She nodded slowly, wiping the tears from her eyes. “I guess. I guess I can’t force you not to go. You … I…” Her eyes widened and she began to cry again. These tears were not the same though. “You… love me?”
“More than you know.” He replied, a small smile forming.
“I’ll wait,” She said as she went forward to embrace him, “I will wait for you to return and when you do… well, we’ll be together forever. Promise?”
“Promise,” He assured, raising his little finger.
She wrapped her pinky around his and gave it a peck. She grinned, “I’ll miss you”
“So will I” he replied softly.
He wrapped his arms around her and closed his eyes, “don’t worry. It should be over… soon.”
They sat down against the tree and looked up at the stars. She leaned her head against his shoulder as he began playing with her fingers.
“Look at all the stars,” He whispered, “Breathtaking”.
“I agree” She responded in a similar tone, “ but to me they’re just small lights that are there to illuminate even the darkest of nights”
“Deep, much? ”
She smiled and he shrugged his shoulders, “Even if you were walking in the darkest night always remember id be there with you.”
She closed her eyes and fell asleep, smiling.

Umm... When I wrote this I was on a creative low. So names were the least of my worries.
