Karma Police.

The room was circular and everything was white and pure.

Situated around a pedestal in the centre of the room were thirteen white chairs that reached high into the sky at varying intervals of height. Atop of each white chair sat a white person wearing black clothing. Eleven men and two women.

“This is what you’ll get,” the man atop the highest chair said. He motioned with his hands to the pedestal far below them all which lit with a soft glow. The thirteen of them looked down upon the pedestal where the image of a girl was being displayed back to them.

“What’s her name, Samael?” one of the lower chaired individuals - Evangelus - asked.

“It matters not her name,” Samael replied from the highest chair. “You all know her case, or did you decide not to read up, Evangelus?”

There were a few snickers among them as Evangelus sunk in his spot.

Jophiel, whose chair was along middle ground, looked down at the girl being shown before them. He smiled as the thoughts entered his mind one by one, connected like train-carts with a missing end. “Are we going to kill her?” he asked with a grin.

“You would like that, wouldn’t you? Sexist bastard,” Cassiel replied as she crossed her arms. “I read the fucking file and this girl did nothing to warrant death.”

“Know your place, Cassy,” Bahram replied from above. “You know you haven’t the faintest clue what you’re doing. Fucking new recruits.”

“Fuck you,” she yelled back.

“Imbeciles,” Ramiel boomed from his seat below Bahram’s. “The Superior knows.”

Mariangela, the newest recruit amongst them, sitting in the lowest chair, looked down at the girl’s face. She wiped strands of black hair from her view as she watched the girl quaintly. The truth was that Mariangela hadn’t read the file, nor had she ever been to one of these meetings before. She didn’t know anything about what the Thirteenth Order was all about.

“You look lost, Mariangela,” Chamuel replied with a smirk. “Burnt out already?”

With the exception of Samael, all eleven opposing heads turned to her direction. A sweat broke, trickling down the side of her face as her cheeks turned a pale red.

“Look at that,” Melachy replied, “the girl is still showing real emotion. How peculiar. I would like to run some tests. She would make a fine specimen for my experiments.”

“Silence,” rang Samael’s voice.

“But sir -- she has not yet begun the transition! With the results of her experiments, perhaps we too could a find a way to get back what was lost! Our real emotions.”

Samael looked down upon Melachy who was sitting in the second lowest chair. “If you do not comply by my orders, then you will be the next to go.”

“But sir--.”

Samael snapped his fingers and, at the sound, Bahram aimed one of his guns at Melachy. Melachy’s eyes widened, backing up in his chair. His head was shaking violently, hair swaying from side to side as if any of that mattered.

“Don’t do this!” he yelled, to which Bahram could only smile as his fingers clenched the trigger. The white chair was painted red as the bullet collided with Melachy’s tethered face, and soon, his body began to fade away in black wisps until nothing was remaining.

“Shame,” Govad replied stone-faced, “he was one of the original recruits. Now there are even fewer of us left.”

“Did you hear the way he screamed?” Zadkiel inquired, “you would have thought he actually felt scared.”

“Nothing but an act,” Haniel replied, his elbows on his knees as he watched the girl being shown on the pedestal smiling. “He knew just as well as all of us - we can’t feel anything.”

“It was only natural of him to pretend,” Izrail said, not bothering to look up from the book he was reading. “The desire to feel overrides everything. Pretending to feel things we can’t. Pretending to actually have emotions. It’s natural of our existence to do so.” He stopped to turn a page. “Just like your little bitchfit,” he said, looking down at Cassiel. “Pathetic.”

Mariangela didn’t say anything.

“Are we going to kill her or not?” Jophiel said, looking back down at the girl being displayed on the pedestal. “The suspense is just killing me,” he smirked, an action which only caused Izrail to roll his eyes.

“No,” Cassiel replied. “The rules can’t be broken just to satisfy your fucking needs, Jophiel. Read the file and you will find that she does not deserve death.”

Cassiel looked across the room at Evangelus, who had his nose in the girl’s file the entire meeting. She smiled as she raised a hand and the file flew toward her to Evangelus’ dismay.

“Should I read it to you, Jophiel, or can I trust that you didn’t lose the ability to read along with your emotions?”

“Quit with these games,” Zadkiel replied.

“But I thought you liked games, Zadkiel?” Chamuel replied, running his fingers through his red hair.

“What use is a game with no chance?” he replied, tossing dice into the air periodically only to catch them once more. “Their little argument is the worst kind of game. With no element of chance, none of them have enough on the line.”

“What was it that you said about Mariangela?” Chamuel asked, smiling.

Their faces turned to Zadkiel who looked unfazed. “I said that she put something that didn’t exist on the line, and won.” He paused, glancing down toward the black haired girl sitting quietly in her chair. “Obviously a cheater.”

“Enough,” Samael bellowed.

He waved his hands and the pedestal in the middle of the room changed to show the image of the girl from before getting hit by a car while riding her bike. Her body lay lifelessly beside a mangled bike and the damage her impact made on the car. That was when the image froze.

“Decide her fate, and get on with it,” he said.

“All right,” Haniel began, “those who want her alive, raise your hand.” All of them raised their hands with the exception of Samael, Izrail, Jophiel, Haniel, and Bahram. “Well, that settles it then.”

Samael nodded as he waved his hand once more and the image of the girl unfroze in time. She was breathing again as the driver of the car ran out of his vehicle to check to see if she was alright.

“What a waste of time,” Samael said as he disappeared from his spot.

Soon after, the rest of them vanished from their chairs leaving behind Mariangela. She was watching the events of the girl emitting from the pedestal with solemn eyes. The worry was stilling aching in her heart as she watched the girl being checked on by the driver.

“You know, once they find out that you’re not one of us, everything will go to hell.” Mariangela jumped in her chair, turning up to find Izrail staring down at her from a higher chair. “How long has it been since I last felt surprise? Since I last felt shocked?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Mariangela said looking back down at the girl.

“Of course you don’t,” Izrail said. “The longer you stay here, Mariangela, the more of us will die. I don’t know what Samael hopes to gain from keeping you - a person who is still living and complete - here with us, but that is what is going to happen. You saw how quickly Melachy was disposed of. In time, that will happen to anyone who stands up to Samael about you.”

“What do you want from me, Izrail?”

“I want you to help me.”

Her eyes widened as she turned to look back at the man who was watching her with a smile. “Help you with what?”

“You may not know the rules, but the rest of us in the Thirteenth Order are incomplete. We have been stripped of a key part of our being, and that means that we no longer truly exist. We cannot feel emotions. All we have are our memories.

“That being said, there is still hope for us. Every day we gather here, in this room, to judge people that, like you, are still living. We decide the matters appropriate for each one of them. If we decide that they live, then they are given another chance at life. If not, then we separate their souls from their body and they die.

“The others are oblivious to this fact, but each soul that we collect brings us closer and closer to finally becoming complete once more. And that is where you come in, Mariangela.”

“Why would you want the others to die?”

“Because once they are gone, and I do mean all of them, then there will be no one stopping me from taking the souls of everyone who comes to be judged. And then will I finally be complete,” he said. He looked down at her once more as he closed his book with a loud snap. “Oh, and, Mariangela?”

She looked up at him as he waved his hand, causing the girl to disappear from the pedestal. He could see tears in her eyes, and as he looked at her, he knew that it wouldn’t be long before he could feel just like her.

A tear escaped her, running down her cheek and as he looked at it he smiled before saying, “you’re going to be the last one I kill.”

"kind of"? Organization XIII gathers hearts. The Thirteenth Order captures souls. Both do this to be "complete". Both meet in white, circular rooms with ascending chairs. Both have members adorned in black cloaks. I think it's more than "kind of" =P

This is how I think the characters are equated:

Bahram=Xigbar
Ramiel=Xaldin
Melachy=Vexen
Govad=Lexaeus
Izrail=Zexion
Jophiel=Saix
Chamuel=Axel
Evangelus=Demyx
Zadkiel=Luxord

Mariangela=Xion

And I'm guessing that Roxas isn't here because Audo hates him =P

I must say, I rather liked this. An "adult" version of Kingdom Hearts if you will. And figuring out who the characters actually are was quite fun too.

True. Besides, Jophiel smiles--something I can't picture Saix doing. I should've picked up on that since he's one of my favorite characters =P

khfreak, if you're going to fight for Roxas's merit as a character, you need a stronger argument than "he doesn't suck!"
