Default NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month

Hey everyone. As some of you may know, November is National Novel Writing Month, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo. People join the official site (NaNoWriMo.org) and throughout the month of November post their progress and word-count. It's a great motivator to finally start writing that novel idea you've been sitting on. Here's some more information about the program from the official site:

Quote:
National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.

As you spend November writing, you can draw comfort from the fact that, all around the world, other National Novel Writing Month participants are going through the same joys and sorrows of producing the Great Frantic Novel. Wrimos meet throughout the month to offer encouragement, commiseration, and—when the thing is done—the kind of raucous celebrations that tend to frighten animals and small children.

In 2007, we had over 100,000 participants. More than 15,000 of them crossed the 50k finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists.

So, to recap:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month's time.

Who: You! We can't do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let's write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

When: You can sign up anytime to add your name to the roster and browse the forums. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.
I think it would be of benefit for many people to sign up! If enough people on these forums get into it, we could start some great discussions about it, and all of the new content from writing your novel could really liven up the board.

So, go for it!

Holy crap! I never thought I'd see the day when KHI would start talking about NaNoWriMo!

I do have an idea for a novel I could do for it, but I don't know if it's completely ready yet. Though, I do have some time before November.

EDIT: I wonder if we should have a board for people to post what they're doing for the event. They could post what they've written in a day and keep adding to it each day.

People have talked about NaNoWriMo here at KHI for the past few years...I don't think anybody's managed to finish it though. I had an idea, last year, but I never had time to do it.

To be fair November isn't a very good month for the event, December would be far better because of vacation time.

Meh, mine's pretty much just a character-driven redemption story. But hey, it has butlers/bodyguards, ghosts, dog tags, leather gloves, and a motorcycle. How could it miss?

There is so much possible fun signing up for this. There's also so much possible frustration. Hell, why not give it a shot?

Now, I could use my overly brainboiled fantasy novel, my modern supernatural, or something else entirely. Hmmm...

I'm thinking of writing the same plot idea I had last year. It's a story born from my inability to come up with a story.

I think it's a simple yet promising premise, if I milk it for all it's worth, but I'm hesitant to post my idea here, for fear of having someone taking it. lol

I think I will do this. Luckily my schedule will die down for a few weeks in November, so I should be able to work on a novel. I think I have a pretty good idea of what to write about so far, just need to put everything to paper.

This looks really interesting.
Being 14, I probably won't go through with it. But who knows, maybe I can actually do it.
Hell, I'll try it.

Well, you could still do it without typing it. But if you want to submit it, you'll need to type it up.
