The girl’s hands held onto her friend’s knee. Maroon strands of hair danced in front of her eyes, talking with one another warmly like old friends finally reunited after months’ absence. A “I’ve missed you so” here and a “don’t ever leave again” there.

“I had forgotten how much I missed you.”

“I missed you too. So much.”

“Well, don’t worry. I’m here now.”

“But what of the pirates?”

“The pirates?”

“Certainly you know of the pirates. There they are, conspiring against us, threatening to maroon us!”

“Pun! Nice.”

“I thought so.”

The girl`s eyes darted toward two of her best friends laying on the couch in front of her. A head resting on the shoulder of one, and that head resting against the other`s. Eyes closed, slow breaths. She smiled.

“Those are Pirate-Hairs if I ever did see.”

“Curley and unpredictable. You just know they are up to something devious.”

“Oh, certainly. Devious indeed.”

“Indeed.”

“It’s okay. I’ll protect you. We have the Germans on our side.”

“The Germans?”

“Why yes, the Germans. Can never go wrong with German support. Whip chocolate at those pirates and the Germans will simply devour them. Oh, don’t you worry one bit.”

The girl tilted her head. Soft sounds came from the girl on the floor next to her. The other girl rested against the legs of the others, eyes closed lightly as words went unsaid. She moved, and straightened-curly hair swayed slightly.

“Ah, the Germans. Marvellous decision. But what if they are not enough to take care of the Pirates? There are two pirates!”

The girl looked up at the dark haired girl resting next to the middle boy.

“If worst comes to worst, we can deploy the good ole Stephanie Meyer cheese.”

The girl laughed and said, “I like this moment.”
