Until that day comes...

A habit of the learned. They seek the most intelligent person in the room to talk to. RoA's simply trying to hold a conversation with someone of his own intelligence.

Perhaps some more interlopers will emerge, and we will have a grand social gathering on our hands? -lists on fingers- Jinsei, Yuet, The Guardian...

Blood Autumn, Verity Lapse, Fenrir...

Such a gathering would prove rather controversial, as overused as the word may be, but dang, I've seemed to have misplaced all those passwords.

Remember? You weren't allowed to see me typing.

Might seem like a dumb question, but sue me, I don't RP, and I'm curious.

How do you know who wins? I mean if both people want to win, how do they decide?

Locks.

Locking an opponent is the act of using the various attacks and defenses placed by the opponent to seal off all possible escape routes from the foe. Basically, you play to their weaknesses and strengths, and eventually cut off all options for them to escape a death-dealing attack. Now, all "locks" can be escaped - but you tailor your lock to the individual.

Ah, ok, I think I understand.

I suppose as long as everyone is fair it could work.

But couldn't the other person always escape death. I mean for example, couldn't they just always write that they ecaped somehow?

No, because you can't make up powers on the fly. :D

Example: If I trapped you in a barrier of astral energy that would implode if you moved, killing you instantly, and you could only, say, wield darkness as a power, you're screwed.

That's why we use templates. Templates describe the character's abilities, and if their abilites cna't help them when it comes to their opponent's attack, they lose.

Also, they cannot dodge everything and connect every hit, as that woul dbe God Modding, which is against the rules.

...

Extreme example if you ask me, but it serves it's purpose.

But what about if it's a melee type challenge? no powers right?

You can still lock. I'm not that good at melee, so I won't try for an example, but the lock can be anything, i.e., throwing your opponent into an electric generator while he is doused with water. It would most likely kill him, unless he was paranormal in a way. That's usually not allowed in melee, though.

I find locks to be more than just a clever move, but a series of them. I think LoC said something along the lines of this:

You do a move towards your lock. If they break it, it is over, if they are oblivious and keep fighting, you go deeper into it. Eventually things will just keep piling up until in OOC you explain what you have done and how they are screwed unless they can do this, or that, or whatever.

For melee, it would be harder. But I guess you can like, put them in a situation where your weapon is almost guranteed to hit them.
