Has anyone read the book: Lord of the Flies?

Did anyone read the Lord if the Flies novel by William Golding? I first read that book in high school but then after that I could not get enough of it. I came across the book again just recently and I studied the book more thoroughly this time. For those who those who don't know or just need a refresher, "Lord of the Flies" is an allegorical novel that was written by William Golding. It is a classic book that depicts a somewhat depicts a somewhat realistic of what would happen if they were a group of boys trapped on island. I don't really know what attracted me to the book but I think it was the first book that really made think. What would really happen if a bunch of kids were trapped on an island really? From my own understanding of the novel, I believe it talks about man's "essential illness" in that every human being is capable of become savages if we were to remove all the rules and norms of society. What amazed me is how a fictional group of British boys who at first were conditioned to "proper and civilized" who later over the course decented into "savagery". The book made me think about the story of Adam and Eve when they used to so innocent up until they ate the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and now because of their own disobedience, we now live in sin. What I want to ask is that what is your own interpretation of the novel?

The main thing that struck me with the book is how under the right circumstances, society and civilisation can fall so easily. If you think about it this way, Piggy clearly represents Science, Simon clearly represents religion, Jack's tribe being the representation of the people. The return to a tribe like state and the destroying of both Science and Religion in place of the basic instinct to survive. When everything is taken away from us, that is what we are left with. I had never really thought about it until that moment.

Every time I read it I pick up on something new, but I will wait and see what other people say before I write an essay on it xD

I loved this book, I read it last year in 8th grade just for fun. It's deeply disturbing, though. You really feel for him at the end. How do you go on living after that? It's odd to think about the aftermath.

When I read this book I was impressed with the genius of the theme, and how the plot was constructed. The symbolisms that was being made really interpeted back to how easily civilazation can crumble, and how right goldings view was. Though I was impressed with the story line, The actually text of the book set me off. The old time set of writing kind of bored me as I read along, I kept wishing I could read a more modernized Lord of the Flies, so I could understand better.

This book was a masterpiece. . . .I'll admit it was not that fn to read but it is hugely related to modern culture and the symbolism is genius. . . .boring as hell though. . . .the weird twisted-ness of it all is what kept me going. . . .

It's good, but not great. To be perfectly honest, it's rather obvious, all the symbolism, that is.

Many people represented many different things, and i don't feel like writing 20+ paragraphs on each character. But overall, the book showed that the human's capacity for self-preservation and greed sometimes beats out there want for a just society.

i read that book........freshman year and well at first i liked it but after that i havent heard of that book since now
i wasnt a fan of reading but i dont consider this book one i liked to read cause it was demanded i was to read it

either way, i saw the movie and read the book but liked the book more cause even though movies can give u a picture of the book, a book can make ur imagination run the images of wat u think the characters are like...u no?

I liked it a lot. We read it a few years ago for school, and I didn't think I'd enjoy it but it was great.

As a lesson, it was a masterpiece. The themes of crumbling society, belligerent nature, folly diplomacy, etc., even though I don't really agree with all of them, are brought about really well. As a read, it was also a pretty good book, at it showed some older books that literature CAN, in fact, be driven by a well-constructed plot. (The Awakening didn't get the memo, amirite?)

i read this book in 8th grade and i thought it was really good. the use of symbolizm for the characters relating to people in reality made you think a lot about today's society. i loved the book.

x_x I read this book in the 6th grade, then we watched the movie. I was pretty shocked at how people could act like that. I never knew why we read it that early though. I figured I would've at least read it during high school.

i watched the movie too and it of course was a little different from the book. it wasnt that great though in my opinion. i prefer the book.

Way too old fashioned, could barely tell what was going on. That made reading the book more of a chore then anything else.
