Yes, and no.
Xehanort's actions prove that darkness can distort anything and create chaos. But, they don't prove Eraqus' views of darkness being absolutely evil, because we also have Riku who is proof darkness can be tamed for to good.

Eraqus was blinded by light. Because of that, the slightest flicker of the Darkness was seen as the worst thing imaginable.
Xehanort did abuse this knowledge though, for his own intents and purposes. If Eraqus wasn't blinded by the light, he would have helped Terra learn how to keep the darkness under control.
The disappointing thing to me is, if Eraqus wasn't blinded by the light and helped Terra, things might have gone differently for the characters.
Master Xehanort uses darkness for evil. Riku uses darkness for good. Light and Darkness do not represent good and evil. It's the person using light or darkness that determines if they will be used for good or evil.
Riku realizes his darkness belongs to him and he controls it. He uses both light and darkness. By doing so he can control his darkness, and by relying on light as well he is able to keep the darkness from controling him. Thus he walks the road to dawn.
MX and ME are foils to each other and have half baked ideals yet neither of them were in the "right". MX used darkness for evil but he wasn't wrong either about balance and darkness being used for good but he chose not to use it that way.
ME believed that all darkness was bad and that light was absolute but neglected balance and in a twist of irony, darkness grew in his heart greater than he perceived. Using a line all the way from KH1 that I think fits here: "The closer you are to the light, the greater your shadow becomes". ME's own shadow grew too large and he didn't realize it until it was too late.
TL;DR they both suck at the master thing.
