Yes, he tried for a bit and then halfway through the series realized that he is not Kamina - that he is Simon the Digger. Sure, that helped him become what he did, but he stopped using Kamina as a crutch and discovered himself and surpassed his Bro.

I spoiled myself just for the first episode outta all the hype I keep hearing about this series.
....and I came to like it 8D

So I'll definately be watching this on Sci-Fi too ^^
Also you can watch some of the dub on youtube ( someone recorded it from a convention )
I was kinda iffy with Kamina's voice >.>;;;

So like I'm on episode 23, and at episode 22 I'm like FALCON, PAUNCH!! because thats what a falcon punch does, blasts people out of the space time continuum. Nothing can explain how awesum I feel about this anime.
