Default Tales from Earthsea

A Studio Ghibli film made by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Gorō Miyazaki. In my opinion it didn't match Spirited Away or any of the other films the Studio has brought out BUT it was really good overall and a great way to launch yourself in the anime film career. Gorō Miyazaki did a great job imo.

I watched it a bit ago. It was alright. Though, it's obvious that Miyazaki's son isn't at his father's level. IMO, the pacing is what killed it. I think he tried too hard to mimic Miyazaki.

The story was nice, and the graphics were cool but I still wonder why it didn't interest me so much....

Maybe because Miyazaki's son wasn't as good as his father?

Or it could have been originality....

But he's working for Studio Ghibli, it's his job to do the same style that his father did because that's how there movies are.

I haven't read all the Earthsea novels, but I have read the sypnosis of the last two, the film seemed to me to be a mismatch of all three books and somehow thrown together.

I liked the film, the beginning sequence with the two dragons was beautiful.

But yeah, give Goro some time and perhaps he'll get better.

It's sort of based of the books, not so much 'off the books'. lol.

That scene was beautiful :)

That's what they are known for, but they don't have to use that style. Take a look at the anime scenes from Tales of Legendia. Those definitely don't look like Miyazaki style scenes.

That's not much of an award to "win."

Still, I watched this a few months ago. It was alright, but Goro definitely hasn't reached his father's level. I'm interested to see how that may change over time though.

It wasn't top shit but it wasn't bad enough to 'win' an award.

Well, apparently Goro is making a new movie (not much info about it, might be called "Battlefield"). We'll see how much he's improved, I guess.

My host father bought me the quintet while in Japan, said it was a really popular story over there. Read them back home and yeah I enjoyed them a lot, still one of my favorite series of all time. Which is why I'm not sure whether to watch this or not.
