Hiruko is a Baku, a being who eats nightmares. Customers come to the tea house every night seeking release from the suffering in their nightmares, and for the price of the tasty nightmare, Hiruko will walk their twisted dreams with them. This is an excellent manga. It uses a style of storytelling similar to manga/anime like Darker Than Black, Mushi-Shi, and Hell Girl; where each chapter/episode is a separate story, while any continuing plot (or character information) goes on in the background or specific chapters. Of course, this type of story hinges on the individual cases that are seen from chapter to chapter, and this manga does that in flying colors. They all have that sense of surreal, and a good amount of the stories end with dark surprises (as opposed to typical cliche endings). It's been difficult to find scans for this manga, but I did manage to find a decent amount for people who want to give this a try. It's actually on Volume 9 here in America, and I could only find scans for up through chapter 19 (and 19.5, a comic-relief "mini-chapter" that means absolutely nothing, lol). Rep Power: 6 ![]() ![]() Level: 15 EXP: | It does sound quite like Mushi-shi and another manga called Bartender. So I'll probably give this series a go. |
