I just watched the OVA (The Blind Alchemist). It's just a 17 minutes episode. It was a lot like the separate filler episodes from the first show. Not of any overall importance, but it was an enjoyable watch. The bgm during the credits was nice as well.

From Page 1, seeing Wrath crawling out I was like....damn.

Nice to see Pride back.

Seriously impressed that Roy had the guts to let Riza die. Pairing or not (I honestly get more of a sibling vibe from them) that was one hell of a scene.

That was a roller coaster chapter. But the end confused the hell out of me; who opened the Gate exactly? Im guessing it was Roy since he's of course the one they need to open the Gate, but how did that happen? He was pinned down and his hands pierced.

Just started watching the first series again today after a 2 year anime hiatus and just learned about the new one? Can anyone tell me if this is a sequel or a remake or whatever, and how it compares to the old one?

It's a remake based on the original manga, since the original anime only matches the manga up to Hughes' death.

The two stories are definitely different, but you should really watch Brotherhood. Higher production values have done the series quite a few favors.

EDIT: Watched the new episode. It was alright. Loved the meeting between Fullmetal and the Fuhrer's family. I've known about Major General Armstrong for a while, but it'll be nice to finally meet the character, lol

In my opinion it blows the original away. Much darker and deeper.

Finished reading volume 23 of the manga the other day (I'm still filling in stuff I missed before I started buying Gangan monthly) and LOVED

the whole bit with Roy's revenge on Envy. Incredibly brutal - I mean, he burns out Envy's tongue and jokes about how well it burns, then boils his eyes in his head, immolates him, and goads him to regenerate so he can keep making him suffer. I totally believed Roy would've been capable of killing Maria Ross if she had been Hughes' murderer, and this volume just confirmed that.

24 should be out next month, and then I think I'll have read everything I've missed :3
