[spoiler]That's just the thing though, he didn't until it was too late. Light left Mello alive because it was as good as saying to Near "L is Kira". Mello had already done a lot of damage by the time Mikami killed him. Near clocked onto the fact that the Death Note Mikami was pretending to use only because Mello kidnapped Takada, and forced Mikami to use the real Notebook.[/spoiler]

Actually, they both wrote Takeda's name in their notes, Mikami being a minute later than Light. Takeda, however, killed Mello, who was the key factor in Near's victory.

Anyway, it's been a while since I've read/watched the end, but I'll try to see if I can get this right. Mikami was ordered to give five pages of the real Notebook to Takeda and put the real Notebook in a safety deposit box while leading on the SPK by filling out a fake Notebook.

Two months later, Takeda was kidnapped and Mikami, with no communication to Kira, took matters into his own hands and brought out the real Notebook and killed Takeda. Gevanni, who was following Mikami, noticed the irregularity in his schedule when he went to the bank a second day in a row to get the Notebook. After breaking into Mikami's safe, they found the real Notebook, which had a two-month gap in entries, starting from when Mikami began using the fake up to Takeda's death. After that, the SPK replaced the real Notebook with a fake, which Mikami tried to use at the Yellow Box to kill the SPK and the Japanese Task Force, and unsuccessfully so. That along with Light's premature celebration and Near's ironclad evidence, Light lost.

I think I covered most of it, but if anyone noticed anything I left out, please add to it.

If Light didn't say "I won" he might have still won, maybe. I still can't believe that someone so damn smart as him would do something so stupid and irrational like that.

What I don't like is that all the boring people survive in the end. I personally don't like Near, but I didn't want him to live, lol, along with the SPK. Misa committed suicide right? Well, a year later I think...

Yeah, he should have waited until their heart attacks started until he started bragging, much like his victory smirk to L as he died. Now that I think about it, I'd actually like to see that more than Light actually winning.

Still, even if he hadn't said anything, he still would have been hard pressed to weaken Near's evidence and silence Mikami's ranting.

I would've done the same thing. Light could barely keep himself from smiling, he had to let it out. Also, he was sure he would win (If only Mikami hadn't ****ed everything up ;)

Yeah, Misa kiilled herself (FINALLY!). I honestly wanted Near to get slapped once in the series.

Did you not pay attention to Ryuk at the end of the series? Users of the Note do not go to Heaven or Hell because neither Heaven nor Hell exist. Death is equal to all humans; there is no afterlife.
