Default Sword Art Online (people trapped in an mmorp- no it's not dothack)

Trapped and fighting for their very lives in a Virtual Reality MMORPG, Aincrad Online, the story explores the mishaps and adventures of the greatest one handed swordsman of the VR world, Kirito. Together with his friends, the solo swordsman strives to finish the game, which in turn will release all the minds trapped into Aincrad.
So yeah, based on the first couple episodes, this is shaping up to be some decent shit. I like the idea, I like the two main characters, and I love the fact that I can expect a cast of people who seem awesome. First episode was pretty great at establishing the stakes; and though the second episode was a bit too rushed, it had great action and did a great job with the leads' meeting.

Plus, it's already scheduled for two seasons, so it's got plenty of time for buildup. Pretty good start for some excellent shounen storytelling.

    ok it might be dothack

Do you know what day SWO comes out on? I watched the first episode and now I am craving more.

This is.. wow. This is much better than I expected after seeing 2 episodes. The main character doesn't necessarily feel drastically different from many typical shounen heroes, but he's definitely got some very interesting traits. I'm a large fan of Klein so far(probably my favorite character), really hoping he returns at some point. The comedy is pretty great in this series so far as well. Action wise, it's decent. Animation is alright as well. The one series I can see myself sticking with this season actually.

I loved .hack. I'll be sure to watch this also to see the similarities and the differences.

So the light novels are apparently much better.

Now if only I could find a way to read them online that doesn't make my eyes bleed -_-

The only thing similar about it (from what I can tell), is the MMO premise. And from what I can remember, players in .hack were comatose not killed. Though Sign, G.U. and Roots will always have a special place in my heart, SAO is awesome.

They make my eyes bleed because:

    1) They are terrible to read on a wiki site.

    2) I can't read them in PDF format the way I really want to.

    3) I tend to nitpick fan translations to hell.

Just saw episode 3. Had Sachin actually sang, this episode would've been ten times more deppressing. Knowing that the NervGEAR fries the players brain after you die, I easily saw the whole revival item was just a hoax(for the most part that is).

Looks like this anime will be going episodic with the side stories for a while before we get back into the main plot. Having read the first volume of the LN and a few side stories, which went with an en medias res style, kinda made it a bit uncomfortable for me to watch this in chronilogical order but I suppose I'll get used to it eventually, as well as with the pacing.

Heck yeah! Can't wait to see them adapt "The Black Swordsman" side story! That'll hopefully bring some light to the dark depression given to thanks to this episode.

The third episode kept the very fast pacing. I'm hoping that in an episode or two, they'll finish up whatever precursor stuff they're looking to animate before getting to the part they plan to take their time with.

    Randomly updating because bored.

Just watched the seventh episode. Easily the sloppiest so far. The last two-parter made me think the pacing was going to smooth out, and yet we're back to breakneck speeds this episode.

Relatively sloppy from an animation standpoint as well. The CGI dragon stuck out like a sore thumb, and it seems like the animators couldn't decide which sword to show equipped, or whether his sword was even equipped at all.

I mean, we're a little over a fourth of the way through this series. It's gonna have to move on from these side stories and hit the plot soon. Hopefully within the next couple.
