Wow, good work Mashima you've managed to totally and utterly destroy and bonk up the mass of potential you handed yourself in the space of two chapters.

I wonder if you even remember what Fairy Tail is about.

Could have had the ones left behind go in search for information on Tenrou Island, then get themselves onto a job that can get them said info and then find the island. Gives a chance for all those left behind to get a mass of development and make it awesome.

But instead we get no development, some shitty plot and now those old characters are going to get thrown further into the background.

Didn't even let them age, literally nothing bad has happened to the main characters.

This close to dropping this piece of crap.

the reason they didn't age so is that we can see them develop and grow. the 7 year time skip, what does it mean? it means that the world has changed and fairy tail itself hasn't, and as mentioned before will help natsu and the gang develop and grow with new challenges and stuff.

this show is about natsu and his quest to find igneel. it is also about him defeating zeref. the show/story is from lucy's view, and is narrated by her.

it is not about these other characters, we already knew that, from chapter 1.

Its been 255 chapters and I haven't seen an ounce of character development and growth from ANYONE in the series, Natsu nearly got it during this arc through Gildartz's speech but he seemed to ignore that and has forgotten about it, other than that there is nothing. I don't suspect I will see anymore as this series drones on either.

Has the world changed? Really? Other than Magnolia deciding to have a different big guild in its city what else have we seen? I doubt much has changed really, but I'll wait and see on that. New challenges? We've seen how Natsu reacts to those and its simply called a "One Time Power Up Ass-pull" which normally has something to do with friendship in some way.

Is that what the manga's about? Is it really about defeating Zeref, I don't think thats ever been brought up as an aim, just something that seems to link a lot of the dark magic stuff in the series and appears when it feels like it. It may turn to that now, who knows.

Surely Mashima should have left a big character in the guild before the Tenrou arc, like Lucy then he could have developed her and seen how she reacts to them disappearing, instead of people like Jet and Droy.

This would've been the ideal way to go about it. Lucy and/or Happy being the only main characters present for the majority of this arc, interacting with the remaining guild members and trying to find their missing friends for the majority of the arc would've been great. In fact, Lucy could've mentored Romero, or Romero could've been the new "parent" for Happy in Natsu's missing status.

It doesn't give a "the world has changed but Fairy Tail hasn't" vibe. If you want to do that, you have to BUILD IT UP. We started with Acknowlogia (or however you spell it, I don't know) using an attack that should have destroyed the island. Now, of course no one believed that the characters would be dead, and most of us were interested in how that would be dealt with in the next arc.

So then, we get a look at the side characters who, despite also being a part of the TITULAR guild, haven't gotten much attention. We're introduced to this idea that the Fairy Tail guild has been taken down a notch due to the loss of their more powerful members. Then, they get a hint from another character that the others might still be alive and that they must search for them. Alright, I can get behind that. That sounds pretty damn interesting. You give these characters some screen time to show off how THEY'VE changed in seven years, since they are the only ones who actually HAVE changed.

Then, we get to the most recent chapter. They get on a boat, they go to the place where the island was, and it gets brought back to them (through yet another poorly explained friendship/faith one-off ability). That's it. Reset to the normal status quo. The main cast is back, both looking and acting no differently than before, and they kicked out the bully guild (or at least the representatives). And we all know that the next arc will be taking on the full bully guild to reestablish their name.

The entire time skip was one giant tease. There was NO REASON FOR IT. He just arbitrarily jumped seven years into the future, but did it in a way that the cast didn't change. Why? Because he DIDN'T WANT them to change. That's the entire purpose of doing it this way, so that the main cast does not change. If they had simply lived and grown up on that protected island for seven years, that would have been a HUGE improvement just by itself. Sure, I would have still been miffed that this "search for the gang" arc was one massive bait-and-switch, but at least the group would have grown up (even marginally) in that time.

It is a waste of an idea that I have no doubt will lead to nothing outside of potentially some new technology that they'll need to deal with, which the gang will overcome in this arc the same way they overcome any seemingly unstoppable force they've come across.

well we haven't seen much yet but so much could've happened in 7 years. the council, zeref, jellal, mystogan, leon and co. the 7 year time skip wasn't suppose to be a arc. it was just something that happened. you guys really think he could expand on that, how? sure i also thought that the arc was going to be about fairy tail defeating twilight ogre, but really with natsu and the crew back it creates more hype. they will own twilight ogre and everyone will get back to business, to the original plot line.

I think things are getting interesting again. We've got some mysteries from the past 7 years: What happened to Zeref, Jellal, Ultear and Meredy, and I think that dark guild Raven Tail, started by Makarov's son, should have gotten stronger too. Now we've got that secret thing under Fairy Tail's guild, Lumen Etoile, and Gildarts becoming master, and this Sabertooth guild with their two Dragon Slayers. Things seem to be picking up which seems pretty good to me.

I'm pretty happy about that too, and the Edolas explanation was alright. Hopfully Wendy gets some better attacks then just her dragon roar.
