    Default Superman: Man of Steel

    I ♥ Superman

Of all the superheroes, he is my favourite. I just love the idea that there's this man that has all the powers in the world and all he wants to do is help.
And of course, the 1978 movie starring Christopher Reeve is one of my favourite movies. I didn't much like the movies that followed, though. It goes without saying that Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace were terrible. I know a lot of people liked Richard Lester's Superman II but I didn't. I much prefer the Dick Donner cut. I did also enjoy Superman Returns, even though I could nit pick at quite a few things. I just found it to be an overall good movie, but not a great representation of Superman as he is now.

The '78 Superman film was utterly fantastic. Reeve absolutely nailed the Clark/Superman dynamic and has yet to be matched by anyone else. I watched it again recently, and even though the movie is 31 years old and dated by most means, the whole thing still holds up really well. I encourage anyone that hasn't seen it yet to do so as soon as they can.

So here, discuss the Superman film franchise. The movies you liked, the movies you hated. The things you liked, the things you hated. Profess your love or hate for the character. And talk about what you'd like to see in the next Superman movie, whenever they get around to making it.

I have seen Superman Returns and a little bit of the movie where there are 3 bad guys wearing black and Superman traps them in the end in a Glass window or something and they go off into space. Also what is with the S that Superman throws off his chest?

Superman Returns it was ok but I kind of think they need a reboot.

    It’s A Bird! It’s A Plane! It’s Chris Nolan! He’ll Mentor Superman 3.0 And Prep 3rd Batman – Deadline.com

Chris Nolan has been brought on to serve in an advisory capacity for a new Superman movie. The idea is that'll help prep a story and the direction, but won't actual direct the feature. So more like a producer.

    Superman 3.0? Fingers crossed.

So David Goyer (story writer for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) has been hired to write the story for new Superman movie - The Man of Steel.
News: Exclusive: David Goyer Hired To Write Superman: The Man of Steel | Latino Review

Other sites have also reported that Jonah Nolan (The Dark Knight) will co-write on the script, alongside of his brother, Chris Nolan, producing. Apparently Chris was also brought on for a very specific reason, and that was to help prep Jonah for directing the new Superman movie (Chris has already started prep on Batman 3 and is commited to that project).

There's also news involving a Flash movie in the works, But maybe the biggest news in this article is talk of a Justice League helmed by Chris Nolan. This would of course start after Batman 3 and the Man of Steel.

Oh man, nothing bad can come from this film. Chris Nolan executive producing? David Goyer and Jonah Nolan writing the script? This will most definitely be a film to watch. Anyone got any ideas for the cast?

I can see Shia LaBeouf playing Jimmy. For some reason, part of me can see James Cromwell playing Lex, but then again, he's really too old to play him. Supes will probably be played by another unknown actor. Lois Lane...well, I have some thoughts as to who can play her, but you guys would probably bash me for it.

That's why I changed my mind and said James Cromwell is way too old to play Lex.

Um, no. Megan Fox is too much of a bad actress to play Lois.

“He [David Goyer] basically told me, ‘I have this thought about how you would approach Superman'. I immediately got it, loved it and thought: That is a way of approaching the story I’ve never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting. I wanted to get Emma and I involved in shepherding the project right away and getting it to the studio and getting it going in an exciting way.”
Christopher Nolan takes flight with Superman: 'We have a fantastic story' [UPDATED] | Hero Complex | Los Angeles Times

The new Superman movie confirmed for a complete reboot. Nolan also talks about how he wants to take inspiration from the '78 movies with the casting, with people like Marlon Brando and and Glenn Ford.

It was the first time I’ve been able to conceive of how you’d address Superman in a modern context. I thought it was a really exciting idea. You can’t move too far away from that.”
Sounds like they're getting a great script together.

Zack Snyder has been tapped to direct the next Superman movie. Deadline Hollywood confirms - SCOOP: Zack Snyder Directing ‘Superman’ – Deadline.com

The Hollywood Reporter suggests that the villain will be General Zod.

"Goyer is writing the script, which, like "Superman Returns," is rumored to have a connection to Richard Donner's "Superman" films. In this case, it's the villain, General Zod."

Source: Zack Snyder directing new Superman movie

    And he talks:

“I can’t say why they came to me other than the fact that they know I have a fondness for the character and a real desire to understand him and present him to a new audience. The challenge is huge but you know with Chris and Emma and Debbie I have a lot of people I can rely on. And Chris and David have given this the shape with a great story. It is a hard character to crack.”

“I think he is viable, yes. He endures. We all want to know, ‘How will he come to us now?’ He is the biggest and the baddest of them all. The greatest of them all, right? We all want to know how the next chapter takes shape. I want to know how it will take shape.”

Source: It’s official: Zack Snyder will direct Superman film [updated] | Hero Complex – Los Angeles Times

If Snyder can ditch his hyper-stylized film-making as he's done in Watchmen, 300 and the upcoming Sucker Punch and focus on the emotional pathos of the character while at the same time finally giving us a super-strong, super-fast superhero punch up I will definitely be looking forward to this movie. Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas producing, David Goyer on the story and Jonathan Nolan, supposedly, on the script and Snyder directing? This should be interesting to say the least.

One of the greatest things about me for Superman for me has always been that he does not have a messiah complex and I really hope that's touched upon.

    Also, Christopher Reeves was brilliant.

Well he has a Superman Complex instead lol.

And if they do it right, they'll probably touch on that.

I am hearing that Goyer's screenplay is loosely based on the Superman: Birthright comic book by Mark Waid and Leinil Francis Yu. Birthright is probably my favourite Superman origin (yes, more so than Secret Origin) because it deals with Clark's choice to become Superman. That's something that no one outside of comics understands. He may have been "born" with the powers, but he wasn't born Superman.

Interesting how WB is once again looking up to a Batman director to get a new Sups flick up and running, like they did before (From Vision to Film: Superman Returns FlixChatter).
