Death Note is a must read, as well as Bleach (at least I think so).

Uh yeah, read Bleach. No matter what anyone says about the anime, the manga is amazingly better.

Gintama
Buso Renkin
Shaman King

and might as well go with DeathNote, but I'll tell you that by the time you get every volume, the whole plot will already be spoiled for you XD

Well Besides Pokemon being the longest Anime of all time the Dragon Ball franchiese is the longest Anime series besides Pokemon in exsistance I havn't read the Dragon Ball and or Z Manga's but I reconmend those series.

I also reconmend the Case Closed Manga it's very close to the Anime a must read

God it all depends on the kind of manga you like ... some on going ones i like are Eyeshield 21 - 20 volumes out in the US, Fullmetal alchemist- 16 volumes out in US, D. Gray man- 9 volumes out in the US and Sgt. Frog- 15 Volumes out in US. But really those are only a few and the ones I like so ... depends if you like 'em or not i guess ...

apart from the manga's stated above which I will not bother repeating, another good ongoing manga series is ares.
